Hearing how familiar Caldwell had gotten with Garfield and Thomasina after just one meal made Mortimer even more frustrated.

And what did he mean by “see you tomorrow”? Were they going somewhere together?

Mortimer’s gaze snapped toward Caldwell. As a dominant predator, a flash of territorial hostility crossed his eyes, only to meet Caldwell’s calm, smiling gaze.

Under Mortimer’s predatory stare, Caldwell gently closed the front door behind him.

Seeing that Mortimer still had no intention of leaving, Garfield and Thomasina exchanged awkward glances. They wanted to send him on his way but felt too embarrassed to say it outright.
