Third Person’s POV

Caldwell didn’t answer right away. He watched Edwin’s trembling lips and let out a cold smile. “Too scared to admit it?”

Edwin closed his eyes, his eyelids fluttering. “It wasn’t me.”

He opened them again, meeting Caldwell’s gaze with absolute certainty. “I told your mother back then that I had nothing to do with his death. But she chose to walk away from the pack-and disown me as her father-rather than believe me.”

Caldwell let out a short, harsh laugh. “Who are you trying to kid? My dad was just a low-level street thug back then. Who else could he possibly piss off so badly that they’d torture him to death and dump his body in the middle of the ocean?”

He stepped closer. “It’s a little too convenient that he turned up dead right after you sent your guys to threaten him.”

Caldwell’s eyes flashed a faint, angry red, his intense hatred bleeding through.

“You’re supposed to be a respected elder, but you don’t even have the guts to own up to what you did.”

Elias scowled in deep annoyance. “You’re exactly like your mother,” he muttered. “It doesn’t matter what others say. You refuse to listen, and you just stubbornly stick to your own version of events.”

Mortimer stepped over to Edwin, murmuring a few quiet, grounding words to calm the older man’s agitated wolf. Once he settled, Mortimer instructed Elias to take Edwin away.

Turning back to Caldwell, who was still glaring with raw hatred, Mortimer closed the distance. “I don’t know why you’re lying to yourself. If my grandfather had actually killed your father, he’d have no reason to deny it-mostly because you couldn’t do a thing to him anyway. Deep down, you probably know that, but you just refuse to accept

the facts.

“If Aunt Abigail wants to visit him, the Blade pack will always welcome her. If she’d rather hold onto her grudge, that’s fine too. My grandfather has been doing very well all these years without her, and he certainly doesn’t need

you.

“However…”

Mortimer paused, staring Caldwell down as the deadly, heavy physical threat of a dominant wolf radiated off him. “If you try to make a move on Sera, don’t expect me to show you any mercy just because you’re Aunt Abigail’s kid.

Caldwell let out a sudden bark of laughter at Mortimer’s words, meeting his warning glare with a defiant grin.

“What do you mean, ‘making a move’ on Sera? Once the two of you end your mating bond, she’ll be single. Even if I did want to date her, that’s between us. As her ex, it won’t be any of your business, Mortimer.”

Mortimer didn’t take the bait. His voice was ice. “You know exactly what I mean. You had better not have had anything to do with Sera’s accident.”

With that, Mortimer turned on his heel, pushed open the door to Seraphina’s hospital room, and walked inside.

Caldwell stayed anchored in the hallway.
