Seraphina’s POV
Mortimer was officially losing his mind. His behavior lately was getting weirder by the second.
But honestly? I didn’t have the energy to psychoanalyze hits “nice guy” routine. I felt the tension in my forehead smooth out as I ust let it go.
Whatever.
‘d just crawled into bed when my phone started vibrating like crazy on the nightstand.
looked at the name on the screen. First came the shock, then a wave of pure, exhausted annoyance.
hit accept. “Yeah? Miss Davis.”
The second I spoke, Vivian exploded. No “fragile girl” act, just a jagged, high-pitched shriek. “Did you tell Morty not to pick up ny calls? Is that what you did?”
stared at the ceiling, totally lost. “Excuse me?”
‘You said something to him! That’s why he’s ghosting me!” Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard.
The fake piety, the “poor little me” skin she usually wore-it was gone. It had shattered into a million pieces.
guessed Mortimer’s rare moment of silence tonight had nuked her sense of security, making her so desperate she couldn’t even keep the mask on.
‘Miss Davis, if Mortimer isn’t picking up, you should be interrogating him, not me,” I said. My voice was calm-borderline
>ored.
‘He never ignores me! If you hadn’t pulled some shady move, he’d never treat me like this!” She sounded so entitled it was almost funny.
‘Wait a second. Haven’t you spent years telling me you’re the ‘only one’ who matters to him?” I asked, letting a small laugh escape. “If that’s true, why would a high-tier Alpha like him ghost you just because I said so? Where’d all that confidence go?”
That shut her up. It was a direct hit.
She lived for being the “exception” to his rules. It was her whole personality in the LA wolf scene.
Admitting that I might actually have some pull with Mortimer was probably more painful to her than a silver bullet.
“Cat got your tongue?” I teased.
I could practically see her pacing her room, vibrating with a humiliated rage that had nowhere to go.
“Don’t get cocky, Seraphina,” she hissed, her voice trembling. “Morty will always choose me. Always!”
It sounded more like a desperate prayer than a threat.
“Oh, so we’re dropping the ‘innocent childhood friend’ act now?” I asked.
I felt like I was looking down at a stray pup that was trying too hard to growl.
Vivian choked on her own breath.
“Look, your role is pretty clear,” I continued, keeping my tempo slow and steady. “In an old-school pack like this, you’re basically a ‘breeder’ at best. I’m the Luna. I’m sanctioned by the Council, written into the Code. My status is miles above yours. And even though-”

I paused, letting a sharp, provocative smile touch my lips-“even though I’m younger than you, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re nothing but a subordinate when you’re standing in front of me.”
“You…!”
A literal shriek of pure, unhinged fury came through the line. “Seraphina! How dare you talk to me like that! I’m telling Morty! I’m telling him everything!”
“Great. Do it. I’m looking forward to the good news.”
“You-”
I didn’t wait for her to finish whatever weak-ass threat she had left. I hung up.
I wasn’t joking about the “good news.”
I genuinely wanted her to go cry to Mortimer. I wanted her to push him so hard fie’d lose his temper and rip up our contract two months early.
If that happened, I wouldn’t have to deal with this moody Alpha anymore, and I’d never have to set foot in this suffocating pack territory again.
Third Person’s POV
Vivian stared at the black screen of her phone, her eyes burning with a rage so thick it was almost physical. Underneath the anger, though, was a cold, sharp shock.
Seraphina-the girl who used to take every hit, the girl who was terrified of breathing too loud around Mortimer-had just gutted her.
Vivian knew exactly how to play Seraphina.
