Chapter 58
Third Person’s POV
They exchanged a look, their eyes practically sparking with unspent gossip.
“Look, stay sharp,” Tade warned, his face a mask of professional gravity. “The boss’s wife has never shown her face here. If she ever does, I want 5-star treatment. No screw-ups. Got it?”
The team nodded in unison. “Copy that, Tade.”
“But wait-what does she actually look like?” one of them whispered, unable to help herself.
“To land a guy like Mortimer, she’s gotta be a supermodel, right?”
Tade blinked as Seraphina’s face flashed in his mind. Supermodel? Please. Put those two in a room together and they look like a power couple straight off the cover of Vogue.
“She’s stunning,” he muttered. “That’s all you need to know.”
“Tade, that’s useless. ‘Pretty’ is everywhere in this city,” someone protested. “Give us a hint so we don’t make fools of ourselves.
Tade sighed. He felt less like a high-level beta and more like a tired butler managing a bunch of interns. “Listen. You know how the boss is. Cold. Untouchable. If you see a woman close enough to actually touch him without getting her head snapped off, who else could it be? Seriously, how did you people pass the interview?” 21
He waved them off. “Back to work. You’ll see her when she gets here.” 1
The crowd dispersed, but Yolanda, the Chief Secretary, hung back.
She gave him a playful nudge. “Tade, what did she say on the phone? You looked like you were about to pass out.”
Tade shot her a look. “Drop it, Yolanda. Not your business. Get to work.”
After sending Yolanda away, Tade returned to his office.
Back in his office, Tade took a shaky breath.
As Mortimer’s right hand, his job was to read Alpha Mortimer’s mind.
And that call? That was a clear ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign from the boss. Mortimer wanted some quality time alone with his mate.
If Tade had been stupid enough to show up and ‘help,’ he’d be overseeing a construction site in the Sahafa by Monday.
“Bullet dodged,” he thought, feeling pretty damn smug about his quick reflexes.
Meanwhile, back at the villa, Seraphina stared at her phone. “Why’d he hang up so fast?”
Clearly, Mortimer was a nightmare of a patient.
Even a guy as patient as Tade scrambled to get away the second his name came up.
She sighed and headed for the master suite.
The door was cracked open. She gave it a light rap and heard Mortimer’s gravelly, cough-wrecked voice, “In.”
She didn’t step inside. She just pushed the door an inch wider. “I called Tade. He’s tied up at the office.”
The small, hopeful smirk on Mortimer’s face vanished instantly. “Why the hell did you call him?”
“You said you couldn’t manage alone,” Seraphina said, stating the obvious. “He’s your beta. I figured he’s the expert on looking

after you.”
She missed the way his face darkened and kept going. “Since Tade’s busy, do you want to call a friend? Or…” she hesitated, testing the waters, “should I call Vivian? I’m sure she’d come over in a heartbeat.”
The temperature in the room plummeted. Mortiiner’s eyes went dark, a predatory shadow crossing his face. “Seraphina… are you doing this on purpose?”
The sudden spike in Alpha pressure hit her like a wall. “Doing what?” she asked, genuinely lost.
Was he always this moody when he had a fever?
Mortimer looked at her-at that blank, innocent face-and felt that familiar sense of total defeat.
It was like swinging at a cloud. “You keep throwing Vivian in my face,” he rasped. “You’re trying to piss me off, aren’t you?”
“What?” Seraphina was baffled.
She could swear to the Moon Goddess she was trying to be helpful.
Usually, when people are sick, they want someone who actually gives a damn by their side.
She was being incredibly “generous” by offering to let Vivian into the packhouse, and he was acting like she’d insulted his
mother.
Her brow hit a hard line.
She remembered it now. A memory of her own, years ago, when she’d tried to nurse him with every ounce of patience she had.
