Chapter 7

Third Person’s POV
Seraphina paused and turned around in confusion, meeting Mortimer’s complex, scrutinizing
gaze.
“You…”
Mortimer started to speak, but Vivian urged him from the side, “Morty, let’s go. Don’t block the road.”
Hearing Vivian’s urging, Mortimer frowned, a hint of resistance in his expression.
His eyes fell on Seraphina’s indifferent face. He opened his mouth, but for a moment, he didn’t even know what he wanted to say.
‘Are you getting in or not?” the cab driver pressed from in front of her.
Seraphina smoothly pulled her hand back and gave the group-Mortimer included-a polite, distant wave. “I’m leaving now. Bye.”
With that, she opened the door and got into the cab. “Let’s go.”
The window slowly rolled up, completely shutting out Mortimer’s complicated, icy stare.
“Morty, let’s head out. Willie and the guys are already there,” Humphrey chimed in. Noticing Mortimer’s foul mood, his voice was a bit cautious.
“Yeah,” Mortimer replied heavily, getting into Humphrey’s sports car.
Sitting in the back seat, Mortimer stared at his phone in silence. The chilling aura radiating from him unknowingly dropped the temperature in the entire vehicle.
As he drove, Humphrey sneakily checked Mortimer’s expression in the rearview mirror. That invisible aura made Humphrey lower his voice instinctively.
“Morty, how about… we invite Luna Seraphina too?”
Mortimer’s brow twitched, but a second later, he shot the idea down coldly. “No need.”
Seraphina didn’t like those kinds of places.
Vivian, sitting nearby, glanced at Mortimer before telling Humphrey, “Luna Seraphina isn’t into our kind of party scene.”
She was hinting that Seraphina looked down on them as nothing but trust-fund playboys.
Sure enough, a flash of displeasure crossed Humphrey’s eyes. “True. After all, Luna Seraphina

is Professor Baur’s star pupil. We’re not worthy to hang out with her.”
He let out a couple of laughs to make it sound like a joke. But it made Mortimer frown.
“You’re an Alpha, stop being so passive-aggressive,” Mortimer said coldly. “Do you have a problem with me, or my Luna?”
At that, both Humphrey and Vivian stiffened.
Vivian, in particular, clearly hadn’t expected a man who was willing to ditch his mate for her just a few days ago to suddenly defend that woman and embarrass his own friend.
Ultimately, Humphrey was still intimidated by Mortimer. “Hey, Morty, I was just kidding! I seriously admire Luna Seraphina’s skills. Who among us can compare to her?” he hurried to explain.
Mortimer’s anger subsided slightly, and he murmured in agreement, “That’s true. You’re all a bunch of slackers. How could you compare to her?”
The subtle pride in his voice instantly triggered a sense of crisis in Vivian.
She stared at the way the corners of his mouth unconsciously curled up when he mentioned Seraphina, and her heart sank.
She immediately lowered her head, her eyes turning red. “Yeah… I’ve always envied people like Luna Seraphina who are so smart. It’s a shame I’m too stupid, and my health is so poor. I could never compare to her.”
Tears fell as she spoke, her gaze full of sorrow and self-pity.
Seeing her cry, Humphrey panicked.
“Hey, don’t cry! Everyone has their own strengths. You’re so sweet and kind, and we all adore you. There’s no need to compare yourself to anyone else.”
ľ
Their whole group knew Vivian suffered from wolf-soul-fracture syndrome. They were terrified of saying the wrong thing, upsetting her, and triggering an episode.
“Right, Morty? Come on, say something to Vivian,” Humphrey urged, gesturing to Mortimer through the rearview mirror.
Fearing Vivian might have an episode, Mortimer quickly spoke up. “Alright, stop crying. Seraphina is good at studying, but you’re good at dancing. She definitely doesn’t have your talent for it. Don’t put yourself down.”
Comforted by the two of them, Vivian broke into a tearful smile. “Morty, Humph… thank you. Even though I’m not smart, I’m so happy to have you guys spoiling me.’
The woman sitting in the front passenger seat, who hadn’t bothered to chime in, finally rolled
