Chapter 72
Vivian had one goal: burn Seraphina’s world down.
She figured Mortimer worshipped her too much to actually stay mad over some ruined flowers.
But it had been forty-eight hours of radio silence. He wasn’t picking up.
“Did she get in his head? Is he really choosing her over me?” The thought made Vivian’s skin crawl.
“V, drop it. You can’t keep hounding him,” Rolf muttered from his bed. He watched his sister vibrating with a manic, obsessive energy. “Morty’s a busy man. You keep suffocating him, and eventually, he’s going to snap.”
“What do you know?!” Vivian shrieked. Her voice hit a frequency that could shatter glass.
“I’ve been hunting Mortimer since we were kids. I worked my ass off to be his mate, and then he goes and marries that… that woman the second I’m gone? How am I supposed to just let that go?”
Her eyes were dark with a jagged, hungry resentment. “I’m not quitting. Mortimer belongs to me.”
Rolf looked at the crazed light in her eyes and felt a cold stone of dread in his gut.
“V, stop. He treats you like a little sister. He’s not in love with you.”
A man in love has a specific look. Rolf had seen how Mortimer looked at Seraphina when he thought no one was watching.
The truth was a match to a fuse. Vivian went nuclear.
“What the hell are you talking about, Rolf? If he didn’t love me, why would he be so obsessed with me? Why would he indulge every single whim I have?”
“Because he chooses me. Every. Single. Time. Doesn’t that tell you everything?”
Rolf sighed, exhausted. He didn’t want to see his sister drown in her own delusions.
“You know exactly why he chooses you, V. Don’t go too deep down this hole. Please.”
Vivian forced her face into a tight, plastic smile. “Fine. Whatever. Take your meds, Rolf.”
Rolf watched her sudden shift, wondering if she’d actually heard a word he said.
There was a streak of pure, unadulterated obsession in her DNA; you couldn’t reason with a wildfire.
“Rest up. I’ll be back with Mom and Dad this afternoon.”
“Alright.”
As she walked out, she brushed past the orderly without a glance, her expression hardening into something cold and calculating.
She didn’t go home. She headed straight for the Craig Group.
The second Vivian stepped into the sleek, high-ceilinged lobby, the receptionist’s eyes went wide. “Miss Davis? Is that you?”
Vivian had a decent following on TikTok.
She’d spent a month burning cash to promote her “Luxury Heiress” persona, filming “day-in-the-life” snippets.
Mortimer never showed his face in her videos, but she’d always “accidentally” catch a glimpse of his watch, his shoulders, or his profile in a dark car.
Whenever her fans asked who the mystery man was, she’d give a coy, blushing “he’s just a childhood friend,” making sure the subtext screamed “we’re together.”

“I’m here for Morty. Is he in?”
Morty?

The receptionist, a loyal follower of Vivian’s TikTok, did the math instantly. Between the nickname and the rumors flying around about the CEO’s secret mating, she drew the wrong conclusion in record time.
“Miss Davis… oh my god. You’re the secret mate, aren’t you?”
The rumors from the secretary pool had been a wildfire all week.
Seeing Vivian stand there, looking exactly like the “heiress” from her videos, the girl was sold,
Vivian didn’t confirm it. But she didn’t deny it either.
She just gave a soft, practiced giggle. “I tried calling, but he’s not picking up. Can I just head up?”
“Of course, Miss Davis! Follow me, please.”
“I can’t believe you’ve never visited the office before! I’m such a huge fan.”
Vivian flashed a gracious, “low-profile” smile-the kind she thought a Luna should have.
“Oh, you know how it is. I’m so busy with my own projects. I was just in the neighborhood. You can go back to your desk; I’ve got it from here.”
