Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73

Third Person’s POV

Vivian was soaking it up. Hearing them call her “Ma’am” was the ultimate high.

She kept her chin up, radiating the kind of smug entitlement that only comes with thinking you’ve already won.

She stepped into the elevator, and a flock of employees crowded in after her.

They were tripping over each other to suck up to her, and Vivian was loving every second of it.

“How’d you guys find out Morty got hitched?” she asked, arching a perfectly groomed eyebrow.

“Word leaked out from HR a few days ago,” a girl with a top-knot blurted out, desperate to be noticed. “Mr. Craig didn’t officially announce it, but he let the rumor run wild on the internal servers. That’s a confirmation in this building.”

The girl kept going, laying the flattery on thick. “He must be crazy about you. He probably wants the whole world to know he’s off the market.”

She didn’t see Vivian’s face drop. In a heartbeat, the smile vanished, replaced by something dark and jagged.

“You think you’re pretty smart, don’t you? Like you’ve got a direct line into your CEO’s head,” Vivian snapped.

The girl froze. Her suck-up smile turned into a mask of pure confusion.

She had no idea which part of the “he loves you” speech had touched a herve.

The rest of the staff went bone-dry silent, staring at the floor until the doors finally slid open.

They scrambled out like the building was on fire.

“What crawled up her ass?” someone whispered the second the doors shut.

“Who knows. Rich wives are all psychos.”

Inside the elevator, Vivian was seething.

That “he must love his wife” comment was a jagged pill she couldn’t swallow.

The elevator dinged at the executive penthouse.

It was dead quiet up here-serious money, serious power.

Vivian marched out, her heels clicking like gunshots on the marble.

The assistants and secretaries all looked up at the intrusion.

“Can I help you, ma’am? Do you have an appointment?”

Vivian didn’t look at them. She scanned the floor with a predatory gaze. “Where’s Morty? I’ve got an emergency.”

Morty?

The staff traded looks.

Someone had already seen the post on the internal board.

“Just saw Alpha Mortimer’s wife in the lobby. She’s a total knockout.”

The mystery spouse had arrived.

Just then, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.

Mortimer stepped out, looking like a block of ice, followed by a trail of suits in expensive tie-wear.

“Morty!” Vivian’s eyes lit up

She didn’t care who was watching She lunged for him, hooking her arm through his na display of intimacy that was way over the line for the office.

Mortimer’s brow hit a hard knot. The temperature around him dropped ten degrees instantly. “What are you doing here?” he rasped.

Vivian felt the rejection, but she didn’t let it stop her.

She dialed up the volume, making sure every ear in the bullpen caught her performance. “I missed you! I couldn’t wait another second to see you.”

Mortimer flicked her hand off his arm with a look of pure irritation.

He didn’t make a scene-not in public-but he didn’t wait for her either. He turned and marched into his private office.

Vivian scrambled after him. As the staff stared, she slammed the door behind her with a heavy thud.

Outside, the whispering started immediately. “So that’s Mrs. Craig.”
