Chapter 84
Third Person’s POV

Mortimer couldn’t wrap his head around it.
In his mind, he’d just made the ultimate sacrifice. He’d bent his knee, swallowed his pride, and offered a “get out of jail free” card for her infidelity. He expected her to jump at -maybe even show a little gratitude for his saint-like patience.
Instead, she was doubling down. For another man.
“You love him that much?” Mortimer’s eyes were a jagged, bleeding red. A low, broken sound-half-snarl, half-sob-rumbled in his chest.
“Yeah.” Seraphina didn’t hesitate. If she had to be the villain to keep Dash safe, so be it. She gave a firm, defiatit nod.
“Alpha Mortimer, I’m not letting Dash interfere with your life. You have zero right to tell me to give him up.”
She was done playing nice. She laid her final cards on the table. “Our contract was clear: we don’t interfere in each other’s private business. This is my business. I’m asking for a little professional respect.”
Mortimer stood there in a dead, vibrating silence. His knuckles were white, his jaw locked so tight it looked like it might shatter. He stared at her like he wanted to burn a hole through her soul.
Seraphina watched him, a flicker of genuine confusion hitting her.
He didn’t just look pissed. He looked… devastated.
“What’s he mourning?” she wondered. “The fact that I picked a dog over him?” 1
The thought was almost funny.
They weren’t lovers; they were business partners in a fake mating. Why would he be heartbroken over a Golden Retriever winning the popular vote? 1
She didn’t have the bandwidth to psychoanalyze his mid-life crisis.
“Since it’s all out in the open, let’s just finish this,” she said, her voice dropping into a healing centeral, decisive tone.
Mortimer flinched. He could hear the executioner’s axe swinging. The mating bond in his gut gave a violent, nauseating yank, pulling him toward a dark abyss.
“I’m moving out for the last two months. I won’t be coming back to the villa. But don’t worry—if you need “The Luna’ for a photo op or a gala, I’ll show up. I’m not going to make this difficult for you.”
Mortimer’s face went a lethal shade of grey.
His hands were shaking now, his restraint shredded. “You’re… you’re filing for separation? Now?”
His voice broke, a raw tremor running through the words. His eyes were actually beginning to sting, a film of moisture blurring his vision.
Seraphina gave him a slow, calm nod.
“I DON’T CONSENT!” Mortimer roared.
The sound echoed off the sterile walls, a jagged, out-of-control sound. “Seraphina, I am not letting you leave! As long as that mating is active, you are staying in that house!”
“Are you worried about the stock price?” Seraphina asked. She’d read enough business journals to know how this worked.
For a global conglomerate like Craig Group, a CEO’s divorce was a billion-dollar hit to the market cap.

But this wasn’t that.
She didn’t own a single share. There were no assets to split, no board members to appease.
“Look, only a handful of people even know we’re mated. It’s not going to cause a market crash, Mortimer. You can relax.”
Compared to Mortimer’s nearly out-of-control reaction, Seraphina was too calm.
The more she dissected their mating like a cold medical specimen, the more Mortimer felt himself drowning.
“Seraphina… just tell me one thing,” he rasped, his voice sounding like it was dragged over gravel. “From the very beginning… when you said yes… was it always just a show for you? Just a role to play?”
The question was so raw, so pathetic, that Seraphina actually froze.
How had she felt at the start?
