Third Person’s POV

Vivian scrolled through the comments, the smugness radiating off her in waves. “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, Seraphina,” she whispered to her screen “I’m going to make sure you and your high-and-mighty family can’t show your faces in LA ever again.”

Seraphina didn’t have the luxury of checking her mentions.

She wasn’t even supposed to be on the clock today, but Rolf’s sudden crash meant she had to coordinate a cross-departmental consult with cardiology.

She barely stepped out of her office with his charts when a swarm of cameras and mics lunged at her.

The impact sent her stumbling. Her elbow slammed into the doorframe-a sharp, sickening jolt of pain that turned her arm numb.

“Seraphina! The internet says you’ve been hijacking high-profile patients just to thirst after their billionaire frietids. Do you have a comment on the malpractice allegations?”

“Is it true you’re stalking Vivian Davids’ mate?”

“Did you only take this case because you knew the ‘childhood friend’ was the CEO of Craig Group?”

The questions weren’t journalism; they were verbal assault. These people didn’t have a professional bone in their bodies. 1

Seraphina felt that familiar, jagged irritation bubbling up.

It seemed like every time Mortimer’s name touched her life, things went south.

She rubbed her temples, trying to hold back the red mist.

“This is a medical facility,” she said, her voice dropping into a lethal chill. “Clear the hall. You’re blocking patients.”

The paparazzi didn’t budge. If anything, her dismissal made them more frantic.

“Are you dodging the questions because you’re guilty, Dr. Hale?”

“So the homewrecking rumors are true?”

Seraphina looked at the circle of sneering faces, the lenses catching the overhead lights.

“The hospital will issue a formal statement regarding the patient’s complications to the family. Everything else is a lie. Now

move.”

A crowd of actual patients was starting to gather, staring at the circus in the hallway.

“Now please leave immediately and do not delay normal work.”

But these bottom-feeders were getting paid to cause a scene.

They weren’t going anywhere until they got a reaction they could sell.

“You’ve got a PhD, Doctor. Don’t you feel any shame for what you’ve done?”

“Is it true you traded your body for that degree? Was it nepotism or just old-fashioned ‘academic favors’?”

Seraphina tried to push past, but they boxed her in against the door. She was trapped.

“What is going on here?! This is a hospital, not a damn riot in the streets!” A sharp, authoritative voice cut through the noise.

Seraphina looked up. Dr. Bauer was marching down the hall, his face a thundercloud. He looked at the cameras with pure, unadulterated disgust.

“Where is security? Get these parasites out of my building!” Bauer roared.

The paparazzi didn’t flinch.

They didn’t care who he was.

One of them shoved a mic inches from his nose. “You’re Professor Bauer, right? The one in the viral threads? Are you here to bail out your favorite student?”

“Are you planning to cover up her malpractice, Professor?”

Bauer’s temper was a legendary thing, and it was currently redlining.

“Medical ethics are judged by a board of peers, not a pack of ignorant vultures. And if you’re going to be a hack, at least try to use some logic. I’m not ‘covering’ for my student. I’m defending her.”
