Ex Wife's Collapse After Divorce novel Chapter 75

Chapter 75

Aurora’s expression darkened instantly. Her lips parted, ready to shut him down-

“It’s fine,” Ethan said, before she could.

She turned to him, startled.

“Go,” he told her, his tone easy. “Don’t worry about me. I get the feeling Mr. Blackwood here has a few misunderstandings about me anyway. Might as well clear them up while we’ve got the time.”

Aurora studied his face intently. She could tell that Ethan had grown weary of Julian, and wanted to use this opportunity to end things between them once and for all.

Perhaps it was for the best.

“All right,” she said quietly. “I won’t be long.”

She gave Julian one last warning glance, then turned and walked off with her secretary, heels clicking sharply against the marble.

The moment she was out of sight, Julian’s face changed.

“Listen carefully, middle manager.” His eyes glinted. “Stay away from Aurora. She’s not something a man. like you can lay a hand on.”

Ethan looked at him-and laughed. Just a short, cold breath of a laugh.

“Touch her?” He shook his head. “I haven’t laid a finger on Aurora. Whatever’s in your head, it’s not what’s happening. We’re clean, she and I.” He held Julian’s gaze. “And going by the little I’ve seen tonight-even if I weren’t standing here, I don’t think she’d end up with you. You should ask yourself why that is.”

The words struck home. Julian’s face flushed with humiliation and fury.

“You’re still lying,” he spat. “I’ve done my homework, Carter. I know Aurora’s been living with someone recently-moved a man right into her home. I couldn’t dig up who it was. Not for weeks.” His eyes. burned. “But I know now. It’s you.”

Ethan sighed, more weary than anything. “She’s my landlord. That’s all. I rent a room. There’s nothing between us.” He spread his hands. “I’ve said what I have to say. Believe it or don’t.”

“Landlord.” Julian barked out an ugly laugh. “You’ve told that lie so many times you believe it yourself, haven’t you? Deny it all you want. I saw her, just now, with my own eyes. When she called out to you-the light in her eyes.”

His voice shook. “That wasn’t a landlord looking at a tenant. That was longing. There’s no other word for it. A woman doesn’t look at a man that way unless she’s in love with him.”

Ethan went still.

The noise of the corridor, the shuffling employees, the distant chime of the elevator-all of it seemed to

recede.

In love with him.

Julian was so certain, so absolute, that for the first time Ethan actually stopped to think about it. And once the thought was in his head, he couldn’t push it back out.

He found himself remembering.

Aurora’s face the first time she saw him, that flash of excitement she failed to hide.

Aurora deliberately pretending to be his girlfriend while he was on the phone with Vivian, speaking so sweetly that Vivian had nearly exploded on the other end.

Aurora sitting down beside him in front of everyone in the company without the slightest concern for gossip.

Aurora saying she was stopping Bianca from taking advantage of him, only to end up joining Bianca and shamelessly touching his abs with her own hands.

One image after another rose in his mind.

Until now, he had been trapped in the mess with Vivian and Sophie for so long that he had never truly

looked at Aurora that way.

And maybe another reason was even more ridiculous.
