Chapter 2
A sourness rose in her chest, and she quickly turned into the bathroom.
Splashing cold water on her face, she looked at her reflection in the mirror.
The hasty escape she’d just made turned her eyes red.
She had known Andres for seven years, been in a relationship with him for five, and had been there every step of the way, from his days of obscurity to his rise to movie star status.
No matter how tiring or difficult it was, she endured it all for him.
When they first started dating, she’d seen a picture of Marlee on Andres’s phone.
He had explained casually that Marlee was a childhood friend, a neighbor.
Keira had believed him.
For the next three years, she gave up her own career as a director, pouring all her energy into supporting Andres.
He didn’t have fame, and couldn’t land good roles, so Keira kept begging from one person to the next for opportunities.
The
company didn’t want to waste too many resources on a newcomer.
So, Keira took on multiple roles. She was Andres’s agent, his assistant, his photographer….
But never once was she herself.
On the rare occasions when there were no filming schedules, Andres would hold her close on the couch, and they’d dream of the future together,
“Kiki, when I become a movie star, I’ll propose to you and give you the grandest wedding, okay?”
She’d wrap her arms around his waist, nodding
For that moment, she gave everything she had, and Andres worked just as hard.
Three
years later, he finally became a movie star.
But Keira still hadn’t gotten her proposal. Instead, Andres had welcomed his childhood neighbor back from overseas.
Over the next two years, he repeatedly chose Marlee over her.
Keira had tried to argue.
Andres explained that Marlee had no one in the country, and the entertainment industry was full
of dangers. As her older brother, he had to look out for her, given their long history.
Keira wiped her eyes but couldn’t hold back the bitterness in her gaze.
Their bond was strong again.
What about her?

For two years, Andres had guided Marlee through everything, scripts and endorsements. Keira had tolerated it all.
But in the end, he even gave away the bracelet.
Why had she fallen in love with Andres in the first place?
Keira thought about it.

Was it because they both had the shared pain of being orphans or was it because he had saved her from drowning?
