It was then that Keira realized what was happening.

She struggled, but he only held her tighter, almost crushing her into his chest.

In a panic, she tilted her head to the side and bit into his neck.

Kamden winced in pain and used that moment to break free from his grip, quickly scrambling to her feet.

Kamden frowned, pressing his hand to the spot where she had bitten him.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, as though trying to regain some clarity.

“Kamden,” she said, her voice trembling, “You must’ve mistaken me for someone else. Are you seeing someone?”

He lifted his gaze, his eyes still hazy.”Kiki?”

Clearly, he had no recollection of what had just happened, nor had he heard what Keira had said.

Keira had an emotional roller coaster. A storm was brewing beneath her calm exterior.

She said, trying to steady her breathing, “Kamden, you’re drunk. Go wash up and get some rest. I’m going back to my room.”

Kamden watched her as she fled in haste. The cold in his gaze seemed as sharp and unyielding as the snow piled high at a mountaintop, keeping anyone at bay.

He didn’t drink often, as alcohol made him lose his sharp focus, leaving him unable to react as quickly as he normally would. Kamden hated that feeling of helplessness.

At the party that night, he had overheard whispers about what Andres had done at the ceremony.

Kamden was the CEO of the Vaughan business empire. He had taken over the position at the age of seventeen. Within just three years, he had pushed the Vaughan Group to new heights. Known for his decisiveness, he was not a man anyone dared to cross.

But tonight, such a trivial matter had left him distracted, a rarity for him.

Keira tossed and turned, her mind unable to quiet the thoughts swirling within. The bitterness of Andres’ infidelity still churned in her mind. But now, all she could think about was Kamden’s domineering, restrained kiss.

It was maddening.

She kept telling her that it was Kamden!

How could she have such a nasty idea?

The night dragged on. By morning, Keira felt utterly drained, as though all her energy had been sucked out.

She had planned to leave before Kamden woke, sneaking out early. But she ran straight into him returning from his morning jog.

Had she known this would happen, she would have slept in.

Caught trying to sneak away, she muttered, “Kamden.”

Kamden noticed her worn-out appearance and frowned slightly.
