Chapter 60

JUSTIN’S POV

+25 Points

Allison’s been acting strange, and I don’t know why. But trust me, I know her well enough to recognize the signs.

She’s somehow managing to avoid being alone with me and it usually means she’s up to something.

It started right after Jessy came back. And yeah, I’m trying not to sound pissed or jealous, but I honestly don’t like not knowing what he’s dragging her into. Especially when she suddenly starts avoiding questions and changing plans.

“Good to have you back in the ring,” Xero says, smirking as he rubs his hands together. “Thought you bailed after that last time.”

Which is what I should’ve done.

Except Black didn’t exactly give me a choice. He jacked up my payment by another five hundred making it fifteen hundred dollars every week.

There’s no way I can scrape that together without fighting, no matter how badly I want out.

I grind my teeth, forcing the thought aside.

“Got any decent guys?” I ask, fixing Xero with a hard look. “Someone that’ll actually make this worth my time.”

He chuckles, exchanging a look with his right-hand man, who smirks back like they already know the outcome. That kind of confidence means tonight’s opponent isn’t a joke. Good.

The tougher the guy, the higher the odds. And the higher the odds, the more cash I walk away with.

“Think you can handle someone twice as brutal as Hash?” Xero asks. “This one’s all muscle and rage.”

“Bring him on.” I tap his shoulder. “Just make sure he’s entertaining.”

Xero tilts his head, chuckles, and waves me to follow.

Stepping out of his tiny office, the noise hits me all at once. There are people everywhere, yelling, shoving, and betting. This place hasn’t been touched since the last time I came and still has cracked walls, flickering lights, and mold everywhere.

Seriously, how do these idiots not freak out that the walls look like they could collapse at any second? And yet… they still show up every night.

Xero climbs into his makeshift ring right as they drag out some poor sap who just got knocked out. The crowd goes nuts…cheering, yelling, throwing drinks, and flipping tables. The turnout’s way bigger than last time. So even if I eat dirt tonight, at least the cash will be decent.

Still… how the hell has the dean or campus security not shut this thing down yet?

“Listen up, people!” Xero yells, and the room quiets down a little. “Tonight, we’ve got a strong contender going up against our undefeated champion. In his own words, he can take out our Firestorm right here, right now.”

A chorus of boos and laughter ripples through the crowd. I clench my fist, ignoring the sting.

“People, take a look at him!” Xero shouts, pointing straight at me.

All eyes swing toward the corner of the ring where I’m standing. A few faces register shock, most settle into amusement, throwing me the kind of smirks and whispers that says I’ve got no chance.

They’re sizing me up like I’m some WWE superstar about to wrestle a grown-ass monster. Meanwhile, I haven’t even seen the guy I’m supposed to fight.

“Should we let Firestorm out now?” Xero yells, veins bulging in his neck.

“YES!!” The crowd roars.

“Should we?”

“Yess!!”

He turns to me slowly, smirking like he knows I’m about to regret every life choice that led me here, and signals for the so-called Firestorm to step out. Honestly… I was already starting to get bored.

Then Xero’s right-hand guy steps out, and right behind him-holy hell-this guy. My lips part before I can

stop it.

Maybe I shouldn’t have imagined someone like Hash walking out, because this dude isn’t like Hash. He’s way bigger.

As he walks toward the ring, I understand why they call him Firestorm. This guy looks like he could knock me out with one lazy swing. He’s like 6’4″ or taller, with golden-brown skin, chest and arms stacked with muscle like he lives in a gym and eats weights for breakfast. Where the hell did they even find this guy?

“J, you look like a ghost just popped out,” Xero shouts, snapping me back to reality. I force my face into a mask of calmness, even though inside I’m calculating escape routes. Let’s be real, I know my wins and losses, and this guy? This might not be a match I walk away from smiling. They might have to literally drag me off the floor when he’s done.

“Let the match begin!” Xero yells, and the room erupts. He spins, giving me the nod that signals it’s go time. I exhale and step into the ring, forcing my nerves down into a tight ball.

Not gonna lie…there’s a solid chance I get wrecked tonight. But I’m still gonna give it my all. I strip off my shirt, toss it over the ropes, and catch a few betting glances. Unsurprisingly, they’re all for Firestorm.

I take a deep breath, planting my feet firmly on the ground, ready to face Firestorm.

“I haven’t seen you around here,” he mutters, stepping closer, his eyes sizing me up. “First time?”

I shake my head. “Second.”

“Who’d you fight?”

“Hash.”

“And who won?”

“Me.” My fist tightens. “Hopefully the same thing happens tonight.”
