Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother (Maya Scott) novel Chapter 201

Chapter 61

ALLISON’S POV

Black looks colder than the last time I saw him, and my heart immediately starts acting stupid. I pass him the fake ID Jessy made, then shove my hands into my lap before he can notice how badly they’re shaking. I keep a small smile on my face, even though I’m pretty sure I look like I’m about to pass out.

Please don’t look too closely. Please don’t look too closely.

He raises his eyes to me, staring for a few seconds that feel way too long and my chest tightens. Then his gaze drops to the card. He flips it over, scanning the back, his face giving absolutely nothing away.

Please don’t figure out it’s fake. I pray in my mind, my fingers digging into my clothes as my breathing goes all over the place.

Then he looks up at me again.

“So…”

“His eyes stay on my face. “You’re really Maddison?”

I swallow hard. “What did you think?”

Anyone with working eyes can probably see how jumpy I am, but somehow, he doesn’t call it out. I force myself to breathe normally, my chest finally loosening when it hits me that he actually bought it. I almost glance toward Jessy’s hiding spot, but stop myself just in time. No need to ruin a miracle.

Black leans closer. “Still need cash?”

“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.” I rest my elbow on the table, forcing myself not to shift. “So? Are you going to help me or not?”

“The name,” he says, one brow lifting.

I tilt my head. “What name?”

“Your friend.” A faint smirk tugs at his lips. “You said someone told you about me. Who’s that?”

Maybe I should tase him until he blacks out.

Except I probably wouldn’t make it two steps out of this bar before all the men here jumped me.

“Luke,” I say, giving him a look that clearly says I’m tired of playing games. “Are you done interrogating me now, or should I get comfortable?”

“I don’t know a Luke.” He studies me for some seconds, then nods. “No worries, I’ll help you like we agreed.”

“Finally.” I roll my eyes and then shoot him a sly smile.

He leans in, motioning for me to come closer. I hesitate for half a second, then scoot forward.

“Still in for dealing coke?”

“Why not?” I press my lips together, then exhale. “My dad’s being impossible, so I need to figure something out till he gets over himself.”

He nods, rubbing at his nose. “You think you can actually do this? Because if you’re gonna freeze or screw up, this is-”

“I’m in.” I cut in, locking eyes with him. “I had a million reasons not to come back here with my ID, but I still did. So what makes you think I’ll mess up now?”

He still doesn’t look convinced. “Because this is risky. You need to understand what you’re walking into. If you get caught, you’ll-”

“Get expelled, arrested, disowned, the whole tragic package. Yeah, I know.” I wave him off and his jaw

tightens, clearly annoyed. “Relax. You’re acting like the nervous one here. Aren’t you supposed to be, like,

chill?”

His jaw hardens. “You better be worth the trouble.”

“Why don’t you wait and see?”

And he will. Every single thing I’ve planned for him.

I picture Justin sitting in this same seat, cornered and helpless. I imagine him begging for money just to get the weight off his neck. And Black didn’t just scam him, he chose to make his life harder, like some heartless animal. The thought makes my chest burn.

Oh, he’ll see more than he can handle.

After one last slow scan of my face, Black slips a hand into his pocket and pulls out a small envelope. He passes it to me under the table, and I take it the same way, my pulse jumping.

This wasn’t easy and I have zero intention of actually dealing coke. But holding the envelope still makes my stomach flip, mostly out of fear and adrenaline.

“That’s five grams in there,” he says. “There’s also a list of people who need deliveries tomorrow and their details. You run that clean, you come back for more and two grand.”

“Two grand?” I arch a brow. “I asked for twenty thousand.”

“You don’t expect the whole thing upfront, do you?” He picks up his stupid knife again. “I run a business. You do your job right, I loan you the rest.”

“Fine.” I slip the envelope into my purse. “I’ll be back tomorrow.”

With a smirk, I stretch out my hand and his gaze flicks between it and my face. “Nice doing business with

you.”

He hesitates, his hand hovering over mine for a second longer than necessary, then finally clasps it and

shakes. When I pull back, he lifts my ID and studies it. “Here, Maddison.”

I take it, smiling. “Thanks… really,” I say, keeping my smile casual but just a little teasing. “Uh… can I get

your number?”

His eyes narrow. “What would you need it for? You already know where to find me.”

I shrug. “Just in case.”

He watches me, and I can practically see the gears turning in his head, deciding if he’ll hand it over. So, I

add a little extra: a bigger, flirty smile, batting my lashes, and a tilt of my chin. It usually works, even on

Justin, and that boy can act like a literal brick wall.

“I’ll give it to you, but don’t call.” He finally says. “I don’t fuck with calls”

I nod. “Noted.”

“Shouldn’t you wait till tomorrow?” Jessy asks, his hand tight on the steering wheel, and eyebrows raised.

“Where’s the fun in that?” I shoot back, already pulling up Black’s number. My fingers hover over the screen

for a second. “Besides… what difference does it make?”

He shrugs. “Maybe I’m just freaked out. I should’ve talked you out of this. What if he comes after you?”

“Ugh, you’re such a buzzkill.” I smack the back of his head, rolling my eyes. “Seriously, what’s he gonna do?

“I don’t know…maybe stab you with that knife he’s always waving around,” he mutters, shaking his head. “I just think we shouldn’t underestimate him.”

I scoff, still texting. If Black could blackmail Justin for months, I can definitely pull the same stunt. And even if he figures out who I am… what are the odds he actually goes full psycho and stabs me? Not zero, sure, but I can worry about that later.

ME: Hey Black, kinda forgot to mention something.

I drop the phone on my lap, grinning out the window. I have no clue how I’ll tell Justin what I’ve done or if even should. If this works and Black backs off, maybe there’s no point in admitting I made him do it. Justin would freak out, and I’d probably never hear the end of him trusting me again.

My phone buzzes and I grab it,

BLACK: ??

Ugh, so rude. But honestly, that just makes it better.

ME: I know who your dad is and exactly what you do to everyone who comes to borrow money from you.

I brace myself to drop the phone, expecting him to take forever to reply again but it starts ringing.

“Look.” I hold it up for Jessy, who steals a quick glance. “He said he hates calls… and he’s calling me. Yep.

got him good.”

“Will you pick up already?” Jessy says, fidgeting.
