Chapter 63
ALLISON’S POV
+25 Points
Since morning, Black has been blowing up my phone with calls and texts. Honestly, it’s a miracle it hasn’t exploded yet. I should respond, but nah…I want him to stew a little. Nervous and anxious people make decisions way too easily, and I like having the upper hand.
Now? I’m all dressed for my date with Justin, standing at the side of the campus café. It’s cold, so I’ve got on a long coat and I’m checking my face for the third time in the tiny pocket mirror I swiped from Katy. I reapply my lipgloss again, smacking my lips together. Technically I should feel guilty for stealing Katy’s mirror, considering I bailed on her in that tiny dorm room while she’s wallowing over her broken heart.
But seriously, I’m so excited to go out with Justin… so sorry, Katy. He’s always so intentional about everything, and I just know he’s planned something. I can’t wait to find out what.
Just as I shove my mirror into my purse, a car screeches to a stop a few meters away, the tires spraying
water all over my shoes.
“The fuck.” I hiss, lifting my head to yell at the idiot behind the wheel, only to freeze. My fingers tighten on my purse strap as people spill out of the car, and my stomach drops.
It’s Josh, Sean and their whole damn crew, including Kristy.
They start looking at me and laughing, the sound scraping against my skin. I tear my gaze away, forcing myself to breathe slowly and count the seconds until Justin shows up. Please, let him get here fast. Or better yet… maybe they’ll just leave me alone.
But of course, they don’t.
“Hey, Alls.” Kristy’s annoying voice floats out. “Pretending you can’t see us?”
I don’t look at them, even though every fiber of me wants to shove my middle finger at her.
“I’m pretty sure she can see Sean,” Josh adds, their laughter grating as they stop in front of the café. “Bet she misses him too. Don’t you, Allie?”
My jaw tightens, and I force my gaze to him, hating that stupid smile. “I’d say screw you, but…” My eyes. flick down to the front of his pants. “…I don’t do small.”
He scoffs, shaking his head. “Or maybe it’s so eroded down there you could fit ten d***s. I mean, we all
saw it.”
His friends explode in laughter, all except Sean, who forces a stiff smile. He’s probably too scared to act like his fellow jerks because Justin would crush him in a heartbeat but still trying to follow the crowd like the coward he is. My throat burns, rage clawing at my chest.
My lips part, ready to fire back, when the hum of an engine stops me. Justin’s car rolls up, and a rush of relief floods me. I slide my gaze toward Josh and catch the way his face hardens. Sean pats him on the

shoulder, and they almost slink off immediately.

“Running?” I mutter, flipping them off as they drag themselves inside the café. I wish they’d waited for Justin to get here. Even if he can’t take all of them, he’d at least knock some sense into Josh’s thick skull.
I step off the sidewalk and run toward Justin, wrapping my arms around him as he exits his car. He stiffens for a beat before sliding his arm around me, and his clean scent wraps me.
When I pull back, I give him a small wave. “Hi.”
He smiles, the corners of his eyes crinkling. “Hey, sorry for keeping you waiting.” His gaze flicks toward the café door. “Did those assholes give you trouble?”
I roll my eyes, shaking my head. “Doesn’t matter. I’m not letting them ruin my mood.” I exhale, trying to
tamp down the nerves fluttering in my stomach because why do I feel like a kid right now? “So…should we
go?”
He nods, letting out a small laugh that makes me grin.
I giggle and rush over to the passenger seat, buckling in before he can say anything. I glance at him.
Where to?”
“You’re so excited,” he mutters, his face flushing just a little. “Now I’m nervous.”
I pout, slouching back against the seat. “Fine, I’m not excited. Just tell me.”
”
He rubs his eyebrows, then reaches into the side of the door and pulls out something. He hands it to me and it’s a small camera, my eyebrow lifting. “Take it,” he says.
I take it from him, flipping it back and forth as he starts the car. “What’s this for?”
“What do you use a camera for, Allison?”
“I don’t know…” I shrug. “Taking photos… but I quit photography ages ago.”
He steals a glance at me as he drives off. “You just need to take photos of all the dresses you like today. Nothing serious. What do you say?”
A smile tugs at my lips. Honestly, this might be the most low-key, cluelessly cute date I’ve ever had as a college student and at this age. I can’t help wondering what else he’s got planned, especially with that
smirk plastered on his face.
“You smile a lot lately,” I say, fiddling with the camera to check if it’s working, which isn’t really necessary because Justin’s basically a perfectionist. One of us lines his shoes perfectly by the door, and it definitely isn’t me. “I’m funny, right?”
“Cute girls make me smile.” he answers, turning onto the main road. “But If you were my girlfriend… well,
you’d find out I do plenty more than smile.”
I narrow my eyes, fighting a grin. “I seem to remember you saying you’d wait for me to figure out if I even like you, Mr. Evans.”

“You do like me,” he says, lips pressed together like he’s enjoying this.
I smack his shoulder lightly. “So this was your plan? Trap me in your car just to make me admit it?”
He doesn’t hesitate and just nods. “Yup. Nailed it.”

“Unbelievable,” I mutter, pressing my lips together as I stare out the window. I’m pretty sure my face is bright red and honestly, I don’t even know why the things he says get to me so easily.
Trying not to say something stupid, I lift the camera and snap pictures of the sky, the street, anything
remotely interesting, for the next five minutes. My heart is still thumping like I ran a mile, and I can feel
him stealing glances at me from the corner of his eye.
Soon, we pull into the garage next to Primark. He finds a spot and kills the engine.
I twist around in my seat to face him. “Primark?”
He shrugs, a little unsure. “Not your favorite?”
I chuckle, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. “I mean… it’s fine. Just… kind of unexpected.”
