Chapter 62
JUSTIN’S POV
I never thought I’d see the day I’d actually ask Black why he’s not taking my money. Guess some things really do come out of nowhere.
“Wait…are you serious?” I ask, watching him frown, and trying to figure out what the hell happened to him.
He lifts his gaze, his nostrils flaring. “You want me to say it again?”
For some reason, I can tell whatever happened is serious, and Black is handling it like… well, like he has no clue what to do. But whatever. If he wants me out with my cash, fine. I’ll leave.
I turn and walk out of the bar, a smirk on my face. Maybe this is my reward after Firestorm beat the hell out of me and knocked me out. Maybe my whole pathetic saga finally made the universe do something in
my favor. I rub the side of my head, wincing at the dull ache still lingering.
Sliding into my car, I pause for a few seconds, just trying to catch my breath.
I catch my own reflection in the mirror and exhale. Yeah… I must’ve been completely wiped out and that’s
what caused the splitting headache back at Lambda house. There’s no other way to explain how one
second, my head feels like it’s about to explode, and the next… I wake up, and it’s gone.
With a shake of my head, I grab my phone and pull up Allison’s number. Finally, some time to figure out
what she’s been up to and why the hell she’s been avoiding me. I type out a quick text, then drop the phone
into the car’s cupholder and start the engine.
As I pull onto the road, my screen lights up and it’s her.
ALLISON: I’m not avoiding you. Just… busy.
With my left hand still gripping the steering wheel, I pick up my phone and dial her number. It rings a few times before she finally answers.
“Allison, I want to see you,” I say without hesitation. “I’ll be there in ten minutes. Get dressed.”
“You can’t,” she says quickly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Katy’s in a terrible mood, and I can’t let her out of my sight.”
“Terrible mood? What happened?” I press, frowning.
“It’s about Braydon,” she replies, hesitating. “I think you should hear it from him… not me.”
“Then it’s not serious,” I snap, turning down the next street. “Get dressed, Allison.”
“Look, I’m busy, okay?” she shoots back.
“That’s-”
She hangs up before I can finish. My lips part in shock before I suck in a sharp breath and nod. Again, I hit

the dial button, and the line rings, but she doesn’t pick up. Is she seriously snubbing me now? Wow… she’s really off her game, but this…this is a new level.
I tighten my grip on the steering wheel with both hands, trying to focus on the road ahead. You know, I could swear I saw Jessy driving Allison’s car along this path earlier… but maybe I’m just remembering things wrong. Maybe I’m imagining the whole thing. There’s no way he would’ve been here, right?:
“That brat.” I mutter under my breath.
By the time I pull up to her dorm, almost ten minutes have passed since I called. If she’d actually listened, she’d be dressed and waiting for me, but there’s no sign of her blonde hair in the parking lot. Still, I kill the engine and sit for a few minutes, giving her the benefit of the doubt.
Another ten minutes crawl by and yeah, she’s definitely not coming out here. Fine. Guess I’m going to have to go get her myself.
I push myself out of the car and stroll into the building. Climbing the steps, I pass a few groups of girls
chatting and others leaving the dorm, their eyes on me like I’m some kind of alien. I swear, Allison is a real brat for making me go through this hassle.
Finally, I reach her and Katy’s room and knock. I know Katy could open it instead, but she’s my sister and a
brother can always drop by so there’s no need for an explanation. Lucky for me, the door swings open, and
Allison’s eyes meet mine. Her lips part in a gasp, and she immediately steps out, shutting the door behind
her.
“What are you doing here?” she asks, panic creeping into her voice.
“What does it look like?” I reply, raising an eyebrow.
“I told you I’m busy.” She fidgets, twisting her fingers like she’s trying to look composed.
“And I told you I wanted to see you,” I counter, stepping a little closer.
She tilts her head, giving me this pleading look, but when she’realizes I’m not moving an inch, she exhales
sharply and grabs my hand. Almost dragging me, we take the stairs and I let her…partly annoyed, partly glad. I just want to talk to her.
“You can’t just show up like this,” she snaps, stopping at the corner of her dorm building. She glances
around, her eyes sharp, like she’s expecting someone to jump out of nowhere.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” I draw closer, and she instinctively takes a step back.
“Me?” she asks, blinking at me like I’m crazy.
“Don’t act like you don’t know what you’re doing,” I warn. “You’ve been doing everything to avoid me.”
She shrugs, looking anywhere but at me. “I don’t know… just busy, I guess.”
“Is this about someone else?”
Her eyes narrow immediately. “What?”

“Another guy… maybe?”
She stares at me for a long beat, then scoffs. “I can’t believe you.”
“I’m just-”

think I’m hooking up with someone just because I haven’t been around?” she snaps, her eyes
“That’s not what I meant,” I run a hand through my hair. “It wasn’t supposed to come off like that.”
“But it did,” she says. “You seriously think that whenever I’m not with you, I’m running around campus like
that? Just being a slut or what?”
“Allison, you’re overreacting.”
She flips me off. “Screw you.”
She starts to walk away, but I grab her wrist, stopping her. She hisses and tries to yank free, but I just pull
her closer and cup her face, forcing her to meet my eyes.
“I missed you,” I admit, before leaning in.
Our lips meet, and she’s tense at first, but then she melts into me, kissing me back. I groan into her mouth,
needing to just take her back to my place but I know she won’t come with me.
When I finally pull back, she pouts, peeking at me from under her lashes.
“Did you really miss me?” she whispers.
I nod. “Yeah. And I don’t like the thought of you being with someone else.”
She huffs. “Since when are you so jealous?”
“Since forever,” I tell her, sliding my hands around her waist and pulling her against my chest. “I just don’t
like showing that side of me. But you’ve been acting… fishy lately. Now that Jessy’s back.”
