Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother (Maya Scott) novel Chapter 210

Chapter 70

JUSTIN’S POV

The way Coach is looking at me, I already know what’s coming. The second Allison leaves, I’m doing skating rounds until my legs fall off which, honestly, is fair because no one brings their girlfriend to the

arena. And no one gives her a private tour of the locker room. I’ve managed to break that rule in what, two

days of dating?

Even Cooper, Coach’s golden boy, has never dragged Katy down here. So yeah, I don’t exactly have

leverage when my ass is about to get handed to me.

“And who are you?” Coach asks, his gaze settling on Allison.

He’s not wearing his usual pissed-off expression and I’ll admit that it is a huge relief.

“Allison,” she answers, sneaking a glance at me. “I know I’m not supposed to be in here and, uh… I’m sorry.”

“So what are you doing here?” Coach presses.

J

Allison’s eyes flick to me, then back to him, then to me again like she’s hoping I’ll jump in and save her.

“I came to see Justin,” she says finally, gesturing toward me. “We were just leaving.”

“Didn’t look like it,” Coach says flatly.

I step forward. “We were-”

“Who are you to J?” he cuts in, completely ignoring me like I’m invisible. At this point, I’m starting to think he’s more curious than angry about the rules we just broke.

“You’ve gotta be something,” he adds, glancing between us. “He won’t bring you into the players’ locker

room for no reason.”

Allison nods, licking her lips nervously before answering. “He’s my boyfriend.”

Cooper snorts beside Coach, then quickly clamps a hand over his mouth. I shoot him a glare that hopefully passes the message that I’ll knock his teeth out if he keeps it up.

When I look back at Coach, he’s staring at me like I just grew a second head.

“Girlfriend?” he repeats.

I nod quickly. “Yes, sir.”

His expression cycles through disbelief, confusion, mild discomfort, and what looks like aggressive mental math, all in about thirty seconds. And I can’t help wondering why he’s reacting like me having a girlfriend is some kind of prehistoric event. If this was Cooper? Sure. That reaction would make sense. But

me? I’ve been nothing but a perfect gentleman around here.

“How did you two meet?” Coach asks, stepping closer like the doorway isn’t giving him enough of the

God help me. Maybe if I answer nicely, he’ll shave a few laps off whatever punishment he’s planning.

I open my mouth to explain that Allison and I have been friends for years, but Cooper beats me to it.

“She’s Katy’s best friend,” he says, not only smugly but annoying enough that I want to plant my fist on his

nose.

Coach’s expression somehow gets even more shocked. He glances at me, then Allison, then slowly turns

back to Cooper.

“Katy?” he repeats. “As in-”

“Yeah,” Cooper finishes for him. “J’s sister.”

I swear, at some point that guy is going to start paying a tax for dating my sister. He has to:

“Before you say anything,” I jump in quickly, “I just want you to know I’ve liked her for a long time.”

Allison’s cheeks turn a little pink beside me.

Coach doesn’t even blink. He just stands still for a moment like he’s running the whole situation through some complicated mind algorithm. Finally, he exhales, shaking his head like none of this is making sense

to him.

“No more breaking into my arena,” he tells Allison.

She nods immediately, and our eyes meet for a brief second.

Then Coach points a finger at me. “And you… follow me.”

“Yes, sir.”

He turns and starts walking out, telling Cooper to escort Allison outside.

There goes my plan to give her the full arena tour. But hey, at least now she can brag about sneaking into

the players’ locker room if she wants,

I follow Coach into his office and shut the door behind me. As he settles into his chair, I stand in front of him, bracing myself for whatever punishment he has planned. If I’m lucky, it won’t involve scrubbing the

showers.

“Justin.” He starts.

“Yes, sir.”

“Justin.”

“Yes, coach.”

He leans forward slightly, his eyes narrowing. “Why are you getting distracted at a time when you’re

supposed to be training harder? Have you forgotten who came to see you in this very arena?”

Of course I can’t forget that day or the promises I made to Miller. How could I? It was the day that made my future feel like it actually had promise.

“No, sir.” I answer. “I did not forget.”

“So you think this is the best time to be dating and sneaking your girl into the locker room?” he demands, his eyes sharp. “I’ve known you long enough to know you barely entertain women like your teammates for

reasons I don’t need to hear, and this is the time you decide to change all of that?”

I want to tell him she’s not a distraction and that with Allison, I push myself harder, aim higher, do more, just to see her happy in the long run. I want to tell him hockey is my only way out of a life I’d rather not live. But some things he already knows… at least that part.

So I exhale. “I know walking in on us like that probably gave you a bad impression of our relationship, but I promise you, it won’t distract me or change me. My goals haven’t shifted, if anything, they’ve doubled. I know I need to work twice as hard as before and you won’t have to worry. I’ll bring my A-game to every

rink and match.”

He rubs his face repeatedly before leaning back in his chair. “Does she know the position you’re in right now? That you’ve got a scout watching your every move?”

I hesitate. I planned to tell Allison, but Black distracted me from that moment. “No, sir,” I admit finally. “But

I was going to tell her.”

He shakes his head. “There’s no buts in situations like this. Or do you think there are?”

“No, sir.”

He exhales sharply. “Well, if you say your goals have not changed and you can handle it, I’m placing you on intensive training. Miller will be watching your next two games more critically than ever. You know what

that means, don’t you?”

“Yeah.” I step closer, my pulse picking up. “Did he say anything in particular?”

“No, but he didn’t need to.” He explains. “A scout’s job is to spot the next big player. Talents are everywhere, and once they see someone, they need to be convinced to keep them at the top of their list. If you don’t make the cut…well, you already know what happens so don’t you dare think you have a guaranteed straight-line pass to the Bruins. You need to push harder, J. Every. Single. Day.”

I nod, raking a hand through my hair. “When do I start?”

“Friday.” He responds. “It’ll be just me and you for three hours. I won’t tolerate excuses, late arrivals or you slacking off. If you’re not cut out for this, tell me now, and I’ll call Miller and have your name scrapped

from the list.”

“I can do it.” I exhale slowly. “I’m fully committed.”
