Chapter 71
JUSTIN’S POV

“Come on, man, I’m telling you…it’s nothing.” I’ve probably said it a dozen times tonight to Cooper but he
won’t listen.
Allison left an hour ago, and all I wanted was some peace and sleep, but here comes Cooper, Luke, Martin,
and Zach, like they’re running a full-on surveillance on me. Now, they’re grilling me about the headache.
“Dude, you literally looked like you were dying,” Cooper says, his eyebrows raised. “How is that nothing?”
“Has it happened before?” Zach chimes in, leaning forward.
I let out a slow exhale. “Yeah, but I wasn’t really in the right physical state when it did. I’m pretty sure it’s just stress catching up with me.”
“Stress?” Luke adds. “Dude, you’ve got Allison. Ain’t no way you’re stressed.”
“So having Allison automatically erases all stress from skating?” I shoot him a sharp glare. “You guys
should just drop it. Coop’s totally exaggerating.”
“Exaggerating?” He slaps Zach’s thigh for emphasis. “You needed to see him, man. He was by the wall, clutching his head. J, you seriously need to get yourself checked. This is the kind of stuff you only see in
movies…next thing you know, nosebleed, and boom…game over.”
I rub my forehead, letting out a dry laugh. “Very comforting. I’m not dying, asshole.”
“But he’s right,” Zach folds his arms. “Go get your head checked.”
I throw my hands up. “Okay, now this is getting ridiculous.” I push to my feet. “You all know the stuff I’ve
done and I’m still standing, right here, perfectly fine? Just because of a headache, I’m supposed to drop
everything and sprint to the doctor? I’ve got bigger things to worry about.” I jab a finger at Cooper. “And
you…just because you’re dating my sister now doesn’t mean you automatically become a smartass. Chill.”
They all stare at me, wide-eyed and clearly not buying it, as I stroll to the fridge for a bottle of water. Sure,
their concern’s a little over the top, but honestly? A headache isn’t the end of the world. It’s not like it’s a migraine that pins me down and it’s probably just because I haven’t been sleeping enough. Hell, a long nap and I’ll be golden.
“J, toss me a bottle.” Martin calls, and I grab one from the fridge, walking it back to him. Just as I’m about to flop onto the couch, there’s a sharp knock at the door.
“I’ll get it.” I mutter, moving over.
I swing the door open, and my jaw almost drops on seeing Black. He’s standing confidently like he’s been here many times and for a moment, I’m trying to process two things: one, how the hell does he know where I live? And two…why the hell is he here?

“Surprised to see me?” His voice is low, tinged with anger. I step out and close the door behind me.

“What are you doing here? I thought we were supposed to meet at the bar. That was our deal.”
“Deal?” He scoffs, his eyes narrowing. “You’ve broken a whole lot of our deal, and I haven’t even said anything.”
“What do you want?” I ask, wary of where this is going.
He steps closer, the intensity in his eyes growing. “I should ask you that. What do you want? What did you think you could achieve sending your little girlfriend after me?”
My brows draw together. “What are you talking about?”
“Don’t play dumb with me.” His finger jabs at my chest. “I know Allison or should I say Maddison is your girlfriend, and you sent her to get info from me, just like I got on you. And now you’re using her to blackmail me.” He shakes his head slowly, like he can’t believe my audacity. “You know, I always
suspected the leak was from you… and I wasn’t even surprised to confirm it.”
gape at him, my mind racing. Because first of all… what the actual fuck? He knows about Allison? Nobody
….literally nobody outside my circle, knows we’re together. And blackmailing him? Why would she do that
behind my back? Why would she even consider it? This must be a big joke.
“I’m not sure you’ve got the right person,” I finally say. “I didn’t ask anyone to blackmail you and I was even
surprised when you asked me to leave with my cash last time. I fought for that money and came straight back to give it to you.”
He shakes his head slowly. “No, man, you were happy. You were glowing like you’d won the lottery. Then I dig around and find out the girl who thought she could play me? She’s your buddy… your girlfriend, isn’t she? She wouldn’t be crazy enough to do that for just a friend.”
I narrow my eyes. “Do you have proof?”
He tilts his head, like I just asked the dumbest question in the world. “What?”
“How am I supposed to know this isn’t some cheap trick to jack up the price on me?” I step closer, lowering my voice. “Look, man, I’ve been keeping up with the cash flow. You’ve been asking for fifteen hundred, and I’ve been giving that, haven’t I?”
“That’s-”
The door swings open, cutting him off, and Cooper steps out, his eyes dark as storm clouds. I turn toward him, alarm prickling my skin.
“What the hell is going on?” he demands, his jaw tight. “Asking for fifteen hundred for what?”
Shit. He was listening.
“Nothing,” I mutter, trying to play it cool. “Just hashing out some stuff…”
