Chapter 76
ALLISON’S POV
+25 Points!
Katy’s been running around like packing is some kind of extreme sport. In the nearly three years I’ve known her, nothing stresses her out more than actually putting her stuff in a box. I have no idea what part of it freaks her out so much, but she’ll totally tear her room apart, reorganize it, and then tear it apart again all in the name of packing.
Lucky for me, I don’t have to deal with her meltdown this time. Braydon’s on hand, doing his best to keep her semi-sane, but honestly, it’s like trying to hold back a hurricane. Katy’s convinced she’s going to forget something crucial, maybe her soul, who knows.
“What are you even doing here?” She snaps at Justin, who’s lounging on the couch. And of course, he can’t
even come to my room because we still haven’t told her we’ve been dating for weeks. Every time we plan
to, something happens.
Honestly, I half expect the universe to drop a bomb on us next considering she got kidnapped by Braydon’s
dad and nearly died. It’s like some cosmic signal telling Justin and me to just shove our relationship up
our ass. This vacation we’re planning? That’s going to be the only way we can actually tell her. Even though, logically, she should’ve picked up on it by now. But no, Katy’s the type who needs things spelled
out, straight up.
“I’ll just stand over here,” I hear Justin mutter, and I shake my head because it’s gonna be a long day for everyone until Katy finally gets her life and her suitcase together.
I hook my arm through Katy’s. “I’ll catch up with you guys in three days once I get everything sorted.”
Justin and I are sticking around a few extra days before meeting them in New York and then Colorado. I took Beth’s advice and decided to audition for a few commercials and most of them are shooting over
this break.
“And you… you’ve got that scout thing, right?” She asks Justin, who’s too busy eating peanut butter to look
He nods.
“Good. Keep Allie safe as much as you can,” She orders. “And don’t plss her off. Do whatever she says.”
I bite back a laugh as Justin shoots her an incredulous look before going back to his peanut butter.
“Baby, our bags are already in the car,” Braydon calls from the end of the hallway.
“I’m coming!” Katy says, then immediately drags me into a hug. I wrap my arms around her, rubbing her
back.
“Take care of yourself,” she murmurs.

I pat her head. “You too.”
We pull apart and she smirks. “We’re gonna have so much fun this break.”
I giggle. “I know.”

She drives her fist into Justin’s stomach and he coughs before she walks off. She reaches Braydon and they hook arms, strolling down the hall together.
“Finally,” Justin exhales, reaching for me but I back away.
He lifts a brow. “What?”
“Please wash your hands before you touch me,” I say, walking off. He shuts the door behind him and jogs
after me.
I’ve barely made it past the couch when he suddenly pulls me down, making me crash on top of him. A laugh escapes me as I squirm, trying to fight him off, but he’s clearly got me pinned, his stained hands smudging across my shirt.
“You’re ruining my shirt!” I screech, doubling over as he digs his fingers into my sides. “Stop it!”
“Stop squirming and I’ll quit,” he grins, clearly enjoying this way too much.
“Okay, fine!” I throw my hands up, still laughing. “I’m not moving again.”
After a beat, he finally eases off my stomach and cups my face, leaning close. I almost push him away but not before noticing he’s smeared peanut butter all over my shirt.
“I swear, you’re washing this,” I pinch his nose.
“I can do more than just wash a shirt,” he smirks. “I wash other things too.”
I smack his forehead, and he yelps before bursting into a chuckle. “Dirty boy.”
“You know you like me,” he murmurs, wrapping a hand around my waist and pressing me closer against his
bulge. Heat rushes to my face.
Slowly, my fingers trail over his chest, his eyes sparkling. “I should be rehearsing,” I murmur.
“Something tells me you really don’t want to,” he teases.
I nod, resting my head against his chest, and listening to the steady thump of his heartbeat. “Let’s just stay like this for a while. I’m so anxious about… everything.”
He strokes my hair gently. “I know you’ll ace the audition. You’re my superstar.”
“It’s not just that.” I admit. “What if Katy hates me when I tell her? I mean, we have had every chance to tell
her ever since.”
“When you put it like that, it’s almost like everything bad didn’t happen to her and Braydon this semester.” He pats my back gently. “It’s natural that we got scared to tell her considering the first rule she ever made
for me when you guys became besties was to never have a crush on you.”

I lift my head to look at him. “You never told me why she said that.”

“Apparently, it was that day we danced to Lady Gaga’s song on my birthday.” He smiles. “She thought we were being too friendly and pulled me aside.”
Lady Gaga? I frown, trying to jog my memory. Did I really do all that? Half of first year feels like a blur
anyway.
“Was I… drunk that night too?” I ask.
Justin smirks. “You ate brownies.”
I roll my eyes. “Figures. I was basically always high in first year. I didn’t know how else to deal with my parents just… losing it every time. Honestly, the only reason I stopped was Katy. She’d crawl into bed with
me, telling me stories about how unstoppable I could be if I just quit all that. And then when she told me
about your parents, that was it…I never touched drugs again after that day.”
He chuckles, but there’s a flash of sadness in his eyes. “She loves you, Allison. I think… in some way, she
found peace in you. Seeing you quit, she probably felt a little of the consolation she lost that night my
mom died.”
He leans in, and presses his lips to mine. I shift up, straddling him a little more, just as the door bursts
open.
“Allie, you can’t believe-”
My body jolts upright. Katy’s frozen in the doorway with Braydon right behind her. Everything in me goes. completely still. Then my heart explodes in my chest, a cold spike of fear shooting down my spine. Her eyes lock on me, then flick to Justin, wide with disbelief. She takes a staggered step back, her head
shaking violently.
Before I can even say anything, she screams, a high-pitched sound that cuts through the room. “What the
fuckkkkkk?!”
Her eyes are blazing as she stares at me, chest heaving. Justin moves to stand beside me, but it does nothing to steady the tremors running through my body.
“Katy…”
“Don’t.” She lifts a hand, cutting me off, and storms toward her room.
“I’m sorry,” Braydon mutters. “I should’ve texted… totally forgot.”
