Chapter 81
ALLISON’S POV

My eyes are wide open as I stare out the window while we drive into Braydon’s family estate-no, his estate now that his psychotic dad has been arrested. I was dead tired from all the packing and the flight, but the second this place came into view, every bit of that exhaustion vanished.
This place is insane. Like, ridiculously huge.
I turn to Justin, who’s half-slumped beside me. “Have you seen this place?” I nudge him lightly. “Does this mean Katy’s basically set for life?”
He snorts. “I guess you could say that.”
“How are you this calm about it?” I ask, still staring out like I might miss something. “I mean, I knew he was rich, but nobody told me he’s rich rich. Like mansion, luxury cars, statues in the garden, kind of rich.”
He groans, straightening up as the car rolls to a stop. “Yeah, well… you could say my sister hit the jackpot.”
I push the door open and step out, my smile stretching wider the second I spot Braydon standing on the
portico, hands tucked into his pockets.
Behind me, Justin grabs our bags and pays the driver, but I’m barely paying attention. My focus is locked on Braydon as everything about his huge wealth starts to sink in.
“Braydon!” I call, waving as I walk toward him until Katy steps out.
I freeze.
My smile falters, my hand slowly dropping to my side. She plants her hands on her hips, her eyes locked on me, and expression completely unreadable.
She doesn’t look mad or even cold but just… empty. Like she can’t feel anything toward me at all. My pulse
spikes, and my mouth going dry in an instant..
Braydon gestures toward me. “You coming in or not?”
I force myself forward, ignoring the weight of Katy’s stare as I close the distance between us.
When I finally stop in front of her, I lift my hand in a small, awkward wave. “HI.”
“You’re finally here,” she says flatly. “Good for you.”
Then she turns and walks inside in a dramatic way that tells me she’s definitely not as pissed as before.
“She’s not mad at me anymore… right?” I ask Braydon cautiously.
He shakes his head, a hint of amusement in his expression. “She’s been going on and on about showing you this place, so… you’re good. But,” he adds, “she might still throw a little tantrum.”
A smile spreads across my face and I let out a breath I didn’t even realize I was holding. I can’t imagine

this trip turning cold and awkward because of me. I know I messed up badly but the thought of her staying
mad at me? I can’t handle that.
Braydon leads us inside and the moment I step in, my jaw practically drops. It’s like every ounce of anxiety
just evaporates.
Holy hell.
This place is huge, not just big but majestic. The floors are glossy marble, veined in soft gold, and reflecting the warm glow of a massive crystal chandelier hanging from the high ceiling. The walls are done in clean neutrals, broken up by elegant panel molding and oversized abstract paintings. The sitting room is
three times the size of mine back home and damn, this is cool. Everything is screaming money in a way
that feels unreal.
For a split second, I get why my mum keeps going on about marrying into wealth, whether love is involved or not. Because seriously… how does anyone wake up in a place like this and still feel miserable?
“I can’t believe you live here.” I whisper, nudging Braydon. “And even Bryan? He definitely doesn’t look like someone who comes out of a house like this.”
He chuckles. “Want me to show you his room?”
“Are your dad’s things still here?” I ask, eyes scanning the grand staircase.
“Most of them,” he answers. “We’ll discard some soon, though.”
As he speaks, two young women approach, trying to take our bags from Justin. He resists at first, but Braydon gives him a subtle nod, and Justin finally lets them take the luggage.
“Please take it to their rooms,” Braydon says, and they nod before disappearing with our bags.
Okay, my jaw is now on the floor and I’m pretty sure no one’s strong enough to put it back up.
“You have… staff?” I ask, inching closer, my eyes wide. Justin chuckles beside me, and I shoot him a glare before turning back to Braydon. “Old money. You’re actually old money.”
He shrugs. “Am I?”
“I know I’m acting like some ancient thing, but you… you’re like old money.” My gaze travels from his head
to toe. “And yet nothing about you screams it. You even play hockey…why?”
He smirks. “Ever heard of passion, Allie?”
I shake my head. “Now I feel proud of everything we did to secure your inheritance. If I’d known this is what we were fighting for, I would’ve taken out your old man a long time ago. One clean shot, and he’s
gone.”
He and Justin burst out laughing just as Katy reenters the room. Instantly, everyone falls silent. I press my lips together, stiffening in my position and almost hiding behind Braydon. Maybe she notices us staring but she lifts her gaze, scanning each of us before cocking an eyebrow.

“What?” she demands, eyes narrowing. “What’s with the vibe and the staring?”

“Missed you, sister,” Justin chimes in, winking, but she just rolls her eyes. “You don’t look excited to see
me.”
“I’m not excited,” she mutters, scrolling through her phone. “Same with your girlfriend.”
Braydon steps closer to her. “Thought you said we could have a pool party when they get here? You even had the chef prepare Allie’s favorite-”
“When did I say that?” she interrupts, then glares at me before huffing. “Why are you just standing there? Go shower and change already. Both of you stink.”
I bite back a smile. “Can you show me my room?”
“You and Justin are sharing one,” she snaps, rising to her feet: “Since you both like to share secrets.”
