Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother (Maya Scott) novel Chapter 222

Chapter 82

ALLISON’S POV

+25 Points

Like Braydon said, Katy did plan a pool party if you call four people lounging in a huge, heated pool a party. The only downside? The guys are in charge of the music, so despite the perfect setup, we’re stuck listening to the same J. Cole album for the third time.

Braydon and Katy have kissed at least a million times in the last ten minutes. The arrogant, full-of-himself jock I used to know back in freshman year? Completely gone. This version of Braydon presses kisses

along her neck like he just discovered she’s his girlfriend today.

“We can be like them.”

I flinch, nearly spilling the cocktail in my hand. I spin around to find Justin grinning at me, his eyes shamelessly lingering on my chest. “Why did you sneak up on me like that?”

“Did I?” he teases.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Braydon swimming lazily to the other side. Perfect. It’s my chance to talk to Katy. I shove the glass toward Justin, and he takes it, while I wade through the water toward Katy.

She notices me coming and stiffens instantly, twisting her body to look away which is her classic

defensive move when she’s mad at me.

I stop just a few feet from her but don’t say anything, keeping my gaze burning into her until she finally

meets mine. Her brows furrow.

“What? You’ve got nothing else to look at?” she snaps, gesturing behind me. “Your boyfriend’s over there.”

“Katy, I’m sorry,” I mutter. She stares at me harshly and then her expression softens just slightly. “I’m sorry for lying to you,” I add.

She stays silent for a long moment, then finally shrugs. “You’re only saying that because I caught you. Because I caught you making out with my brother after you lied to me for weeks, if not months.”

“I was scared,” I admit, my voice barely above a whisper. “I was terrified you’d never accept it… and that… that you’d think Justin deserves better. I mean, you know my dating history, and everything with us just felt

so sudden.”

Her eyes dim slightly. “Not good enough for him?” she scoffs, shaking her head. “Love really messes people up. Allison, what in the world would make you think that?”

“Sean and I…”

“I literally forced Braydon into a fake relationship within twenty-four hours of breaking up with Bryan,” she interrupts, dropping her glass onto the deck and propping her elbows around it. “And then I fell for him…in what, a month? How slow a relationship goes doesn’t mean anything.” She rolls her eyes. “I’m still mad at

you, by the way.”

I lean toward her. “We tried so many times to tell you. That’s no excuse, and I know I lied a lot. I had every

opportunity to come clean, and I didn’t. I’m sorry. You’re my best friend, and it was just…”

“Stupid.” She finishes, turning to face me. Then she lifts a hand and brushes the strand of hair falling into

my eyes away. “No matter how mad you thought I’d get, it’s better than being kept in the dark. I knew something was going on, Allie. You barely showed up, slept out, and every time I saw you, something came up and you ran off. How was I supposed to know it was Justin? You know how he is, how he acts

like nothing really matters. I never would’ve guessed you two were dating, even if dinosaurs somehow

showed up again. Forgive the metaphor but I couldn’t think of anything else.”

I nod, swallowing hard. “I know. Maybe that’s why I was so terrified to tell you.” My fingers fidget nervously. “I was in this… dark place, and he… he pulled me out just by being at my side. Well, technically he did more than that… but this isn’t casual, Katy.”

Something shifts in her expression like the last of the stiffness leaving all at once. “Dark place,” she repeats quietly. “Why didn’t you tell me that? I could have been there for you.”

“Because I didn’t know how to explain it.”

She goes quiet for a moment, then she reaches for my hand.

“I really like him. I… I love him.” I whisper.

For a few seconds, she just gawks at me. Then her eyes glisten, and she blinks rapidly, sniffing before

breaking into a small smile. “Oh my god… you do realize your mom is going to completely lose it.”

“I can handle her,” I say, then lower my voice to a tiny squeak. “Plus… she already knows.”

Katy’s eyes widen, and she yanks my hand away. “Wait a minute! How on earth does everyone know and I

don’t?”

Her voice is loud enough to draw Justin and Braydon’s attention, both of them freezing mid-swim and clinging to each other for some reason.

“Are you guys fighting?” Braydon asks,

“Mind your business!” I snap, and he just shakes his head before dragging Justin underwater with him, laughing as they disappear.

“So your mum knows and I don’t?” My eyes snap to Katy, who’s shaking her head with a full-on look of disapproval and maybe even disgust. “You barely see her, Alls. You see me every day. Now I’m even more pissed.”

“It’s not like that,” I say, pulling her closer. “I swear, she found out by accident. Please… forgive me.”

Her lips curl before she huffs and cups my face, pressing my cheeks together. “Just so you know, my brother’s dead broke. Hope that’s okay with you.”

I snort. “He’s rich… in other ways.” I wink for emphasis, and she recoils, smacking me lightly.

“Allie!” She shrieks, thrashing in the water. “You did not just say that.”

“I’m serious.” I move closer, but she scrambles back, covering her ears. “He’s like-”

“I don’t want to hear it!” She starts singing the words, high-pitched, and practically drowning me out.”

Absolutely will not listen to you talk about that.”

“Then who am I supposed to talk to about it?” I ask, grinning at her obvious cringe. “We tell each other

everything, remember? About our… sex lives.”

She gasps, her face going pale. “Yeah… until we went to screw my brother!” Suddenly, she gasp’s and clutches her chest. “All those tricks you taught me… please tell me you did not use them on him.”

I shrug. “I even picked up some new tricks. Want me to teach you?”

“Never!” she jabs her fingers at me. “We are never talking about sex. The words…fuck, ride, d**k, c**k, suck,

fingers, head, lips…” She splashes water at me mid-rant, and I laugh so hard I almost choke. “Everything is

banned.”

I manage to catch up to her, wrapping her in a tight hug. She squirms at first, but eventually gives in, her

arms circling me as she rests her head on my shoulder.

“Thank you,” I whisper. “Thank you for understanding me… for being my bestie… for giving me this chance.”

“You say that like I just handed you the keys to the White House,” she mutters, squeezing me tighter. “I may be clueless about a lot of things, but you’re my best friend in the entire world. And if my dumbass

brother is who makes you happy, I’d gladly hand him over. Just promise me you hit him hard whenever you beat him up.”

Tears prick my eyes, but I still manage a laugh. “You want me to beat him?”

“All the time,” she says. “But you can also… occasionally make him happy. He deserves that too.”

I pull back and look at her. “I promise. I’ll make him happy.”

She beams and is about to hug me again when I sense someone behind me.

“Make who happy?” Justin’s voice floats out just as his hands find my waist, pressing himself against me and leaning in to kiss my back.

Katy flips him off. “I hate you for stealing my best friend from me.”

“She prefers me. What can I do?” Justin retorts.
