Chapter 83

ALLISON’S POV

By the time I finally open my eyes, it feels like ten people have been sitting on my head. I groan, slowly sitting up, my vision spinning before it finally settles on Justin who’s completely naked and snoring beside me. I rub my forehead, resting against the headboard, trying to piece together last night.

First, there was that ridiculous drinking game, and somehow I ended up spilling how Justin and I first hooked up. Katy was horrified and practically threatened to throw up. Then came the underwater

holding-your-breath challenge, which left me dizzy, followed by more drinks… and that’s where my memory

hits a hard wall.

How I made it to this bed? No clue. Why I’m wearing a night dress? Don’t know. And why the first thing I

see in the morning is Justin’s… well, gorgeous ass? Definitely don’t ask.

With a groan, I grab the water bottle from the nightstand, twisting the cap off and taking a long, desperate gulp. “Oh, fuck.”

My feet hit the floor, and I push myself upright, swaying slightly as a pounding headache and dizziness hit me, before I finally find my balance. I tug on a cardigan and some long pants, anything to fend off the chill

and shuffle toward the door.

It swings open, and I come face-to-face with Katy, bundled head to toe in layers yet still shivering. She raises a hand in a weak wave, wobbling slightly on her feet, and I can’t help but smile.

“Bad hangover?” I ask.

She nods, rubbing her temple. “I think I hit my head somewhere.”

I loop her hand through mine. “Nah…that’s just the alcohol. We drank…a lot. Like, a whole lot.”

“I guess,” she mutters as we slowly make our way downstairs.

“Look, the mess we made last night has been cleaned,” she says, then flashes a grateful smile at a passing staff member. “Thank you.”

I just watch the exchange, my mind spinning because I don’t remember leaving any mess. Didn’t we go

straight from the pool to bed? Did something else happen?

“We should have scorching hot tea,” Katy says, rubbing her palms together. For once, I actually agree on burning our insides with tea because yes, Christmas winter has officially arrived. “I feel like my liver is

frozen.”

“That might still be the alcohol,” I answer, sinking into the dining chair. The heater in here either isn’t working or it’s secretly minus fifty degrees today. “Make mine extra hot, please.”

I watch her as she busies herself at the kettle, and when she finally hands me a mug, the warmth seeping

through it feels like a small miracle.

“Thank you,” I murmur, taking a small sip that nearly burns my lips off but fair enough, the weather started it.

Katy settles opposite me, sipping hers like it’s barely warm, and occasionally blowing on it without a care.

“I love this place,” I say, glancing around. “I could live here forever. Drop out, forget responsibilities, just… have fun here forever.”

She nods, hugging her cup to herself. “When Braydon showed me this place, the photos made it look small. And to make it worse, he called it a slightly comfortable house. I was shocked when I got here.” She exhales, her eyes sparkling. “It’s honestly the best place ever. I’d stay here forever if someone asked me.”

“That’s so-“I begin, but the words die on my lips as the front door swings open. My gaze snaps toward the entrance, and I see one of the security personnel escorting a woman inside.

I look at Katy and she stiffens instantly, her jaw tightening as she rises to her feet. The woman halts mid-step in the sitting room, her expression hard, and mirroring Katy’s intensity.

“Good morning,” the security officer says. “He instructed us to escort her or Bryan if they show up.”

By he, I assume they mean Braydon. But who is this woman, and why does her presence feel so tense?

“I’m not surprised to see you here,” the woman snaps, her eyes narrowing.

Katy folds her arms across her chest. “I am surprised to see you here. Shouldn’t you be in the same facility with your husband?”

The woman’s voice rises. “I know it was you who schemed to tear this family apart!”

Katy scoffs, tilting her head. “You mean you schemed to hurt your stepson and take everything from him in the very house that belonged to his mother and the woman who employed you. You can hardly call my support for my boyfriend a scheme.”

Step-son? Okay… this has to be the witch, the one backing Bryan’s father. But why is she showing up this

morning?

“Where is he?” She demands. “Tell Braydon to get here now.”

Katy rolls her eyes. “Please pack your things and get out. Braydon’s still sleeping, and if you try to wake him, I will pull out your hair.”

My best friend is seriously terrifying when she wants to be, but I love It. She goes completely feral to protect Braydon from people like this. And honestly? I fully support the hair-pulling threat because showing up here with snow covering everything this early is diabolical.

“His father is locked up,” the woman hisses, stepping forward. “What more do you both want? His life? Is that what will make you happy?”

Katy’s jaw ticks before she moves closer to her. “He almost killed me. He had a gun pressed to my head,
