FAKE DATING WITH BENEFITS MY BILLIONAIRE BOSS (Ophelia Corrigan) novel Chapter 137

CHAPTER 137

AMIE

At seven-twenty the next morning, I left my parents’ house with coffee in hand and my phone turned off inside my bag.

I stopped by Maya’s place, dropped off the phone for analysis, and headed straight to Manhattan.

By nine, I was already at Hart Enterprises.

We had an integration meeting between legal, finance, and operations about the Belmonte acquisition. I was supposed to present the contractual risks. Simon would make the final call.

Professional.

Perfect.

Until he walked in.

Dark suit. Gray tie. The face of a man who hadn’t slept either.

Our eyes met.

Neither of us smiled.

Great.

The meeting started.

For twenty minutes, we were flawless.

I presented the legal points. Simon asked pointed questions. The CFO talked about currency exposure. Operations explained the timeline.

Then Simon capped his pen.

“Before we move forward, I need to confirm something with legal.”

I looked at him.

“Of course.”

“I called you this morning.”

The room got a little quieter.

I kept my face neutral.

“My phone’s in for repair.”

One of his eyebrows went up.

“Repair?”

“Yes.

FCOO suddenly found his folder very interesting.

I smiled without humor.

“So you’re without a phone?”

“Temporarily.”

“I see.”

“Does this interfere with the Belmonte acquisition?” I asked.

Silence.

Simon stared at me.

“No.”

“Then we can continue.”

The CFO cleared his throat.

“About the third-quarter projection…”

The meeting went on.

But now everyone knew.

Not exactly what.

Just that there was something weird between the CEO and the head of legal, who also happened to be his fiancée.

When it ended, I gathered my documents.

Simon waited for the others to leave.

I headed for the door.

“Jamie.”

I kept walking.

“I have another meeting.”

“Push it five minutes.”

I stopped in the hallway.

“Was that a request or an order?”

He walked closer.

His expression changed.

id you have someone look into it?”

“I did.”

“Who?”

“A friend who works in cybersecurity.”

“You should’ve told me.”

I let out a short laugh.

“I did tell you about it yesterday. I don’t remember it being a particularly pleasant experience, since you seemed more interested in calling the shots your way.”

His jaw tightened.

“I was angry.”

“I noticed.”

“You shouldn’t have slept somewhere else. We’re two adults. We can be pissed at each other and still deal with our problems under the same roof.”

“Turns out I was too pissed to want to be between the same four walls as you.”

We stared at each other.

The proximity didn’t help. Simon angry was absurdly good-looking, which had always struck me as a serious character flaw in the universe.

“I called you three times this morning,” he said.

“Right. And now you’re without a phone.”

“Yeah, I know.”

His eyes narrowed, and then came that lost-puppy look that had no business being on a man like Simon.

I huffed.

“Don’t make that face.”

He ignored me and took another step closer.

“I didn’t like waking up and not knowing if you were okay.”

“I told you I was at my mom’s.”

“I knew where you were.”

“Then you knew I was fine.”

“That’s not the same thing. You know that. I spent the whole night feeling you missing from that bed.”

anger lost its edge for a second.

That was the problem with Simon.

In the middle of a fight, he’d drop a truth and take out half my weapons.

“I didn’t sleep well either,” I admitted.

His gaze dropped to my mouth before it came back to my eyes.

“Come home tonight.”

I crossed my arms.

“Simon.”

He ran a hand through his hair.

“Come home tonight. Please.”

“I’ll think about it.”
