FAKE DATING WITH BENEFITS MY BILLIONAIRE BOSS (Ophelia Corrigan) novel Chapter 74

CHAPTER 74

MON

She was stumbling, her eyes glassy, a silly smile on her lips. And the intern- that idiot- had his hand on her arm, so close I could smell his cheap cologne mixing with the alcohol in the air.

“Sorry, sir.” Ethan pulled Jamie back a little, like he had some claim on her. “I already offered to take my boss home. You don’t need to worry.”

He said “my boss” like he owned her.

Who the hell does this kid think he is?

“I’m her boss.” My voice came out low. “I decide what’s best for her.”

Ethan opened his mouth to argue. I was already moving.

My hand found his wrist and I pushed it away. He dropped Jamie’s arm like he’d been shocked.

Then I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her out of there without a word.

“Simon, wait-” She tried to protest, but her legs were wobbly, and she leaned against me as I guided her toward the exit. “What are you doing?”

“Not now, Jamie.”

“But I was-”

“Not. Now. I’m taking you home before you decide to do something stupid.”

The night was cold when we stepped outside. She shivered, and I pulled her closer, feeling the warmth of her body against mine. My car was parked half a block away, and I walked her there with my hand firm on

her waist.

She didn’t resist. Maybe she was too drunk for that.

When I put her in the passenger seat, she turned to me with wide eyes, her breath smelling like vodka and something sweet.

“How did you know I was there?” The words came out slurred, almost childish.

I got in the car and started the engine before answering. “I got the invite too. The whole company was invited.” I glanced at her. “And since you weren’t answering my texts, I figured I’d see if you showed up.”

She blinked slowly, processing. “Oh.”

“And wouldn’t you know it, I found you about to be taken home by a twenty-two-year-old intern?” My voice came out rougher than I intended. “Why did you drink so much?”

She smiled- a drunk, carefree smile- and shook her head. “I didn’t drink that much.”

I let out a short, humorless laugh. “You can barely stand. And you almost let that kid take you home. He

looked like he was hoping you wouldn’t be in any condition to say no.”

han’s a good boy.” She leaned back in the seat, closing her eyes. “He was just being polite He only has good intentions.”

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

She didn’t respond. When I looked over, she was already leaning her head against the window, eyes closed.

I stayed quiet for the rest of the drive, the tension building in my shoulders as I watched her from the corner of my eye.

I parked in front of her building and killed the engine. Got out, walked around to her side, and opened the door.

“Come on. I’m taking you up.”

She let me help her out, but when we got to her apartment door, she started fumbling through her bag with clumsy, useless fingers.

“Wait.” She dug her hand into her bag again. “I had the key. I swear I-”

I took her bag and rifled through it: lipstick, wallet, tissues, a makeup case. No key.

“Where did you leave the key?”

She frowned, her brain clearly operating in slow motion. “I don’t know.”

“Jamie.”

“I don’t know!” She laughed, a drunk, carefree sound. “It must have fallen somewhere.”

I let out a long sigh. “You lost your key? Seriously?”

“Hey.” She raised a wobbly finger. “I’m an adult. I’m allowed to lose my own keys without getting scolded.”

“Of course you are. And where are you sleeping tonight? On the floor?”

Suddenly, she moved toward me, her eyes finding mine with an intensity that made me forget how to breathe. Her face was inches from mine, her breath warm and uneven.

“Did you know you have really beautiful eyes?” She ran her fingertip down my chest, laughing to herself.

“They’re so blue. They look like… the sky. But an angry sky.” She smiled at me. “You can stay with me. We can kiss in your car.”

I caught her hand, gently pushing it away. “You’re drunk, Jamie.”

“I am, but that doesn’t mean I’m lying.”

I swallowed hard. “Jamie.”

“What?” She tilted her head, her lips curving into a teasing smile. “You don’t want to kiss me?”

She was so close. The curve of her lips, the gleam in her eyes, the way she leaned slightly forward.
