Roman tapped his fingers lightly on the table and said nothing. A tablet lay on the desk in front of him, filled with information his assistant had gathered. He already had a rough idea of what had happened to the Kains.

There was no air conditioning, no fan. The room was so bare it felt suffocating.

Jasper stood frozen in place.

He had never stepped into Noelle’s room. He had never imagined that she had been living in a place like this.
