Chapter 21 Locked In With Ego
“Come in.”
Sebastian lowered his head slightly, signaling Noelle to enter.
Noelle came bouncing in, notebook in her arms, clearly in a great mood.

“Lucas sent over his old high school notes for you,” Sebastian said, gesturing to a large box on the table. “His mouth can be harsh, but he’s a good guy.”
Noelle curiously picked up the notebook on top. Scrawled across the cover, “Class of ’13– Lucas Steele.” The national STEM top scorer of his year.
Sebastian hadn’t given her his own notes. He’d been accepted to college early on a guaranteed placement, and frankly, with his skill level, he’d never needed notes to begin with.
“And these,” he added, pushing over another stack of papers, “are internal test papers from some of Kingstowne’s top private schools. They should help. Try one, I want to see where your foundation’s at.”
“Yay!”
Noelle beamed and walked over, grabbing the first test sheet.
“Aww, honey! Why are you so good to me?”
As she bent down to take the paper, her soft lips accidentally brushed against Sebastian’s ear.
His fingertips twitched, barely noticeable, but his face remained calm and unreadable.
Noelle settled in beside him and spread out the test paper, looking completely focused and
serious.
The study was quiet, just the two of them. Outside, a breeze rustled through the willow trees, their leaves whispering against the window. For the first time in what felt like ages, Sebastian felt peace. The tension that had gripped him for days began to fade, and a gentle drowsiness crept in.
Except for that one time, when he’d fallen asleep in Noelle’s arms during a medical episode, he hadn’t had a proper rest in
ages.
Chronic insomnia had haunted him for years. He could never truly relax. But with Noelle nearby, something in him settled.

He let his eyes close, intending to rest for just a moment.
When he opened them again, the sky outside had already dimmed into twilight.
Noelle was gone. A soft blanket had been gently draped over his shoulders.
He had actually fallen asleep at his desk for a full five hours.
A note was tucked beneath his arm.

“Honey! You were sleeping so soundly, I didn’t want to wake you! I went downstairs to cook with Elaine, and I’m going to show off my amazing cooking skills! So when you wake up, there’ll be yummy food waiting! Heh! Oh! I also finished the test, please review it, honey!”
Downstairs, the faint smell of food drifted up, mixed with the sound of Noelle’s cheerful laughter and the light chatter of the staff. Sebastian picked up the test paper underneath the
note.
He glanced at it, and fell silent.
Out of a hundred points, she’d scored nine.
His eyes swept over the answers again.
Yep. A bold, red 9. Out of 100.
Well…
There was definitely plenty of room for improvement.
For the next few days, Noelle stayed at the manor. With her school leave approved, she didn’t have to go anywhere. She spent her days in bliss practically glued to Sebastian’s side.
Before they knew it, the day of Elmer and Stephen’s motorcycle showdown had arrived.
“Boss, heard Elmer’s been locked up by Mrs. Kain,” a voice came through Noelle’s phone. “Hasn’t been seen in days. Think the race’s off? You still coming?”
“Don’t worry,” Noelle said with a calm, amused tone. “He’ll find a way out. I’ll be there on time.”
“Got it! The whole crew’s ready and waiting for our leader!”

Back at the Kain’s estate, Elmer had been locked in his room ever since getting out of the police station.
By his count, today was the day, the final race against Stephen.
And he was still stuck inside.
If he didn’t show up, that bastard Stephen would probably laugh his ass off, calling him a coward.
No way.
“Let me out! Open the damn door! I need to go! Elmer yelled, pounding on the door like a madman.
