Chapter 280 Friends
“I wouldn’t mind one bit.”
Noelle tilted her head and looked over at Sebastian. “Honey, would you ever mind?”
Sebastian didn’t even glance up as he dressed her wound. “I’d love you no matter what you look like.”
Noelle beamed. She turned to Lucas, practically glowing with pride. “You hear that? That’s what actual love sounds like.
“Of course, someone like you wouldn’t get it. You’ve never even had a girlfriend.”
Lucas went stiff. His whole face froze.
He stared at the windshield. His jaw clenched. A few seconds passed in dead silence.
“..Thanks.”

Noelle pulled her hand back as Sebastian finished and flexed her fingers lightly. “Don’t thank me. Just make sure you cover the medical bill.”
Lucas blinked. Then his mouth fell open. “Noey! I was feeling touched!”
“And what’s that worth? Emotion doesn’t pay bills. Money does.”
“Fine, fine, here. You’re hopeless.”
Lucas grabbed his phone and sent the transfer without another word.
A soft ding echoed through the car.
“You have received 500 thousand through PayPal.”
Noelle heard the alert and smiled with satisfaction. She looked toward the car window. Neon signs streaked past in a blur. Roman’s words from the party played over again in her mind, and her gaze grew colder.
There was no way Viola was actually the Guzmans‘ missing daughter. It was absurd.
But for a family like the Guzmans to take someone in like that, there had to be DNA testing involved. So what did Viola pull to get them to accept her?
Noelle’s brows pinched together. No matter how she ran it through her head, it didn’t add up.
She picked up her phone and typed out a message to Willa.
“Serena, I need your help digging into something.”
Elsewhere.
Roman stepped into his house and immediately ordered a full background check on Viola.

“Dad, you really think the Guzmans‘ daughter is fake?” Ignatius looked startled.
“I’m nearly certain.”

Roman sat in the study’s heavy oak chair, his expression dark. His fingers struck the desk with measured pressure. “That kid from the Steeles was far too confident, and Noelle didn’t say a word to deny it. If Viola’s really the Kains‘ daughter, then she cannot be the Guzmans‘ missing daughter. The logic falls apart completely.”
Ignatius looked at his wife Renee. Their eyes met, and both of them looked rattled.
“But… the Guzmans ran a DNA test. Angus supervised it himself. That shouldn’t be wrong.”
“Which is what makes this terrifying,” Roman said. His eyes lit up with a sharp glint. “If even the DNA results can be faked, then someone inside the Guzmans already has serious reach. Either they’ve got someone working deep on the inside, or there’s collusion happening under the radar.”
If a traitor had embedded themselves in the Guzman household, it was more than dangerous. It was catastrophic.
“Enough guessing. Ignatius, take a team you trust and head to Riverdale. Look into this from the ground up. If Viola really is the Kains‘ daughter, then she is absolutely not who she claims to be.”
“Yes, Father!”
Ignatius answered without hesitation.
Roman looked over to Renee, his voice softening. “I’ll need him gone for a while. Thanks for holding the house down while he’s gone.”
“Roman, please. Of course I’ll manage. What matters is the family’s stability.”
Renee gave a respectful nod. She’d always held Roman in high regard. Even though she came from modest roots, Roman had never judged her for it. Not even after over a decade of marriage without children. He still treated her like his own daughter.
Men like Roman were rare.
Roman waved his hand and motioned for them to leave.
He remained seated in the study, leaning into the chair with his eyes darkening further.
If Viola wasn’t the real daughter…
Then Noelle… Was she the Guzmans‘ true bloodline?
Back at the Guzman estate, Viola’s face was tight with frustration. She walked in with clear regret all over her expression. If she’d known how tonight would go, she never would’ve shown up at that party.
“Charlotte, what’s wrong? You look awful.” Mary had been arranging flower stems in the living room. She immediately dropped everything when she saw Viola walk in with red–rimmed eyes and a pout that screamed pity. She rushed over and reached for her.
Viola leaned right into her arms. Her voice trembled, and her shoulders shook as she spoke. “Mom… someone bullied me at the Steeles‘ party tonight…”
“What?!” Mary’s whole face changed. Her expression turned fiery and fierce. “Who would dare touch my daughter like that?! Tell me right now! I’ll take care of it myself!”

Viola sniffled and played it up even more. “It was… Lucas. The Steeles‘ oldest. And Noelle.”

“Noelle?” Mary’s eyes narrowed. “You mean that girl from the Kains? The one who got you tossed in jail and ruined your SATS?”
“That’s the one. She saw me become the Guzmans‘ daughter, and she got jealous. She said I wasn’t worthy. Said I had to be some kind of fraud.”
“How outrageous!” Mary shot up to her feet, furious. “The Steeles? That social–climbing family? That boy actually dared to humiliate you? And Noelle–just hearing her name makes me sick. Who gave them the right to talk to you like that?! I’m calling your father this instant. He’ll deal with the Steeles directly.”
Viola saw Mary take the bait and felt her nerves settle. She leaned in again, adding just a bit more flair. “And it wasn’t just them. Mr. Haller… Roman was there too. And he actually backed Lucas and Noelle. He even scolded me. Right there. In front of everyone.”
