Her polite tone was almost too much, as if she was scared of offending even a receptionist of Alliance 749.

By then, the elevator doors had closed. She couldn’t see anything else.

She told herself she must have imagined it.

Noelle couldn’t possibly show up at Alliance 749. With her background, she wouldn’t even be allowed inside, let alone use the executive elevator with a bunch of people fawning over her.

Felicia soon calmed down. Someone like Noelle wasn’t getting in here–there was no need to get distracted.

There were 30 names.

Noelle glanced through the pages.

All the candidates were top grads from elite schools, with first–class résumés.

Suddenly, her hand stopped turning the pages.

Her eyes lingered on a name.

“Felicia Hernandez?”

She read the name aloud.

The senior executive peeked over. Thinking Noelle was interested, he jumped in, “She is a Riverdale native, a med student at Riverdale University. She’s just an undergrad, but she already stands out among her peers.”

Most interviewees were master’s or doctoral students.

For an undergrad to get shortlisted was rare–but it wasn’t against the rules.

Noelle herself was from Riverdale, so Riverdale locals had a special privilege. Applicants from other cities needed a master’s or doctorate but Riverdale students could get in as undergrads.
