Right in front of the crowd, he reached out and pulled Noelle up from her seat, holding her tightly before she could react.
His arms clamped around her like he’d almost lost her for good. There was no hesitation. Just pure, terrified relief. He wrapped her fully against his chest, resting his chin on the crown of her head as he breathed in deeply.
She hadn’t expected it at all. Her face pressed into his chest, which carried a cool, crisp scent. She could feel the pounding of his heart. It was fast and strong. His arms were trembling.
Sebastian was shaking.
Noelle gently patted his back. “Honey, I’m okay! You don’t have to worry!”
Lucas saw she was safe and finally let go of the tension in his chest.
Without another word, he turned and walked off to find Chris. Noelle had almost gotten hurt, and that wasn’t something he’d let slide.
Alina glanced at Noelle and Sebastian, still locked in that embrace. Her expression softened slightly.
Without a sound, she turned and left.
Yvette followed behind her.
Alina returned to the office to finish some unfinished work. By the time she wrapped it all up, it was already late. She went straight back to the Guzmans‘ estate.
Even deep into the night, the old mansion was glowing with lights.
Alina walked into the living room with the chill still clinging to her coat. Mary sat on the main couch. Her face was stiff with rage. Her chest rose and fell heavily from how furious she was.
Viola sat curled beside her, one cheek swollen and red. A handprint was still visible across her face. She sniffled softly, her shoulders shaking like she’d just been hurt beyond words.
‘Alina! Stop right there!” Mary snapped the second she saw her.
Alina stopped. Her voice stayed even as she looked straight at her. “Mom, it’s late. Why haven’t you gone to bed?”
‘Gone to bed? How could I possibly sleep?” Mary pointed at Viola. “Look at her! Look at your sister’s face! You hit her?! Why would you do that?!”
Viola looked up at the perfect moment. Her eyes were wet with tears. Her voice wobbled. “Alina … I know you’ve never liked me, but how could you hit me like that? I’m your sister… How could you treat me this way…” She curled deeper into Mary’s arms like she was terrified.
Mary held her tighter, her arms full of sympathy as her eyes narrowed at Alina with raw disappointment and fury. “Charlotte finally came home after everything she’s been through. You’re her sister. You should be protecting her. But instead, you hit her? You’ve been living in luxury under the family’s roof for twenty years. She spent those same years suffering! Do you seriously not feel any guilt? Where’s your compassion, Alina? How did you turn into someone this heartless?”

Alina looked at them without blinking. Her expression never changed. But behind her eyes, a cold spark passed through, along with a tiredness she didn’t bother hiding.
“I hit her,” she said, voice cool and crisp. “Because she earned it.”
“You-!” Mary choked.
“Today, the auditorium ceiling at Kingstowne University collapsed. It almost hit a student. That student was Noelle.”
Alina’s voice turned sharp as she locked her gaze on Viola. “And before that happened, someone edited the performance list and shoved Noelle’s name onto it. Funny how the ceiling came down right after her performance. Charlotte, do you really not know anything about that?”
