Forget it. No matter how bad Noelle is, she’s still my biological daughter. Mary comforted herself. That husband of hers really isn’t a good match. I should find her a few men with good backgrounds and solid character. One day, she’ll thank me.
Noelle arrived at Guzman Group.
Alina came out to greet her. She was in a tailored suit, sharp short hair cut to ear length, one side tucked behind her ear. The long, slim earrings added a hint of allure to her otherwise cool presence.
“I heard you and Mom didn’t get along, and you didn’t even eat. I ordered takeout for you. Eat a little first.”
Alina brought Noelle into her office. The assistant quickly set the food on the table and greeted Noelle respectfully. “Ms. Charlotte, please enjoy.”
“Have a bit first, just to tide you over. If you don’t like it, we can go out and get something else later.”
Alina’s voice was gentle.
Noelle glanced over the food, her brow tightening almost imperceptibly.
“This is what you usually eat?”
Alina sat down on the couch across from her and smiled. “Work gets busy, and time is tight. As long as I’m full, it doesn’t really
matter what I eat.”
Noelle pressed her lips together. “You asked me here. What is it?”
Alina’s smile faded slightly. She picked up a dark blue folder from beside her and slid it onto the coffee table in front of Noelle.
“Open it.”
Noelle lowered her gaze to the document.
On the cover, the words “Guzman Group Equity Transfer Agreement” stood out.
Her eyes sharpened. She paused, then picked it up and opened it.
A long list of clauses and figures filled her vision.
The contents went far beyond what Noelle had expected.
Alina was transferring more than 20% of her personally held core shares in Guzman Group to Noelle, unconditionally.
Not only that, but the agreement also included future voting right delegations and board seat arrangements, practically clearing the path for Noelle to step into Guzman Group’s management in the future.
Noelle looked up at Alina, her gaze openly filled with surprise and scrutiny. “What’s this?”
Alina met her eyes. “Nothing special. You’re a Guzman, everyone’s darling. These things should have been yours to begin with
Noelle frowned slightly. This was truly something she had never anticipated.

As far as she knew, Viola had pressured Alina constantly back then, desperate for Guzman Group shares, and Alina still hadn’t given her any. Now she was handing everything to Noelle instead.
“You’ve run Guzman Group for so many years, and now you’re giving so much to me?”
Alina looked at her steadily. “You’re my sister. I just want to give you the best of everything.”
After the meal, Alina took Noelle on a tour of Guzman Group. Noelle could tell that she genuinely wanted her to take over the company.
In the afternoon, Alina had an important meeting, so Noelle didn’t stay long. Alina personally arranged a car to take her back.
Alina stood at the entrance of the building, watching until Noelle’s car disappeared. Once it was gone, the smile on her face slowly faded.
She took her phone out of her pocket. It had been vibrating nonstop.
When she unlocked it, the screen was filled with messages from Viola.
“Such touching sisterly affection. You’re really generous, handing over Guzman Group shares just like that. I just wonder, if I knew that it was you who deliberately made her disappear back then, would she still treat you as her sister?
“Before sunset, I want 20 million. Cash, non–sequential bills. Don’t tell me you don’t have it. As the Guzman Group heiress, skimming a bit from company funds or selling some personal assets shouldn’t be hard for you.
“Remember, before sunset today. If I don’t see the money, or if you dare try anything funny, I’ll tell Noelle what happened back then. I’ll tell the Guzmans everything. Let’s see if you can still keep what you have now.”
At the end of the text was a grinning skull emoji, dripping with malice and threat.
Alina’s fingers tightened around the phone until her knuckles turned white, veins faintly visible on the back of her hand.
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, then slowly let it out, trying to suppress the rage, fear, and crushing helplessness surging in her chest.
Melrose Manor, dusk.
Noelle was curled up on the couch, a thin cashmere blanket draped over her. She propped her head with one hand, lost in thought.
Sebastian came downstairs in dark loungewear, sat beside her, and tucked the cashmere blanket around her. Then he picked up the equity transfer agreement from the coffee table.
He reviewed it more professionally than Noelle had, his eyes scanning every clause and detail, occasionally tapping a spot lightly with his finger.
After a moment, he set the document down and turned to Noelle, giving an objective assessment. “From a legal and commercial standpoint, there are no traps or hidden clauses that disadvantage you. If anything, it’s extremely favorable. It looks like Alina is being sincere this time.”
Noelle hummed softly. “Right now, she is genuinely good to me.”
“People are complicated. They’re not just black or white. The fact that she lost you back then is true, but the fact that she’s treating

“Maybe.” Noelle narrowed her eyes. “But no matter how she treats me now, what happened back then… She owes me an explanation.”
Until Alina explained why she had abandoned her in the first place, Noelle couldn’t bring herself to treat Alina as her sister.
