In the end, the old man couldn’t bring himself to be ruthless. Family was family, no matter how ugly it got–and more than anything, he didn’t want his grandson burdened with the stigma of sending his own uncle to prison.
Though he never said it outright, everyone present understood his intention.
Ethan lifted his head sharply to look at his grandfather, his eyes instantly reddening. His throat tightened, and not a single word would come out.
The very first thing Theodore did after waking up wasn’t to dwell on his brush with death–but to think about him.
Noelle and Sebastian exchanged a glance. They understood as well.
Sebastian nodded. “Alright. We’ll do it your way.”
Only then did Theodore seem to relax. He closed his eyes, visibly exhausted, rested for a moment, then opened them again and said, “I’m tired. I’d like to speak with Noelle alone for a bit.”
Everyone quietly withdrew, leaving Noelle in the room.
Once the door closed, Theodore looked at her, his gaze clear and calm. “Noelle … I know my own body. Surviving this time was pure luck. The damage runs deep. I don’t have many good years left.”
Noelle’s heart ached. She wanted to comfort him, but he lifted a hand to stop her.
“What I can’t let go of are those two boys–Sebastian and Ethan.” His eyes grew distant, weighed with worry. “The rift between them… runs too deep.”
He looked at Noelle with complete trust, almost like a plea. “Sebastian is cold by nature, stubborn once he decides something. But when it comes to you, he listens. Completely. Ethan… that child carries too much in his heart. He’s awkward, guarded–but he’s not a bad kid.
“Noelle, I know you’re capable. And I know you have the heart for it. While I still have time… I want to ask you to find a way for them to truly let go of the past and reconcile. Even if they can’t be as close as real brothers… at least, let them stop resenting each other. Stop guarding against each other. Can you do that?”
Noelle met the heavy expectation and near–pleading in his eyes and nodded solemnly. “Mr. Theodore, don’t worry. I’ll do my best.”
Only then did the old man finally relax. A genuine smile softened his face as he patted the back of her hand. “Good girl… thank you.”
The news of Theodore’s awakening brought a wave of joy to the estate.
Angus and the rest of the family came by again, and after surviving such a disaster, the two old men had plenty to reflect on.
“From now on, just focus on recovering. The kids will make their own luck–you don’t need to worry anymore.”
“Haha, well said, old friend!”
The two elders chatted happily. Jonathan came as well and pulled Noelle aside. “Noelle, are you free this weekend?”

“I am. What’s up?”
“This weekend, I have a blind date–with Claire, the eldest daughter of the Flynns.”

Jonathan paused, his tone serious with a hint of helplessness. “You know how these alliances work–it concerns both families. And my mom… isn’t exactly reliable. So, I’d like you to come with me.”
“Me?” Noelle was surprised.
“Yes,” Jonathan said firmly. “You’re the most cherished little sister in our family–and someone who’ll be part of it long–term. Whether Ms. Flynn is suitable for the Guzmans doesn’t depend only on the elders‘ opinions. Your view matters. If you don’t like her, I’ll look for someone else.”
In short, becoming the future Mrs. Guzman required Noelle’s approval.
Warmth spread through Noelle’s chest. She could feel how much Jonathan valued her.
“Alright, I’ll go with you this weekend,” she said with a smile.
The weekend came fast.
At the Flynn Residence, Claire sat at her vanity while professional makeup artists and stylists worked on her.
The woman in the mirror looked flawless–her makeup refined but not ostentatious, elegant and gentle. A custom purple suit accentuated her poise and grace.
She studied her reflection, determination gleaming in her eyes.
Veronica and Hailey hovered nearby, their faces lit with barely concealed excitement.
‘Claire, you look stunning today! Mr. Jonathan won’t be able to take his eyes off you!” Veronica flattered.
‘Exactly! You’ll definitely win Jonathan over and become the future Mrs. Guzman!”
Hailey was practically vibrating with excitement, already imagining herself riding her sister’s coattails and crushing that annoying Noelle underfoot.
Claire listened to their praise with a faint smile, carefully checking her appearance to make sure everything was perfect.
This blind date wasn’t just about her marriage–it was the Flynns‘ crucial step toward assimilating into the Guzmans‘ expansive empire.
