Jaylee suddenly looked up at him. Shock filled her eyes, and the last bit of color drained from her face.
Come with him?
What did he mean by that? Is this another kind of deal?
Her hands clenched tightly at her sides. Her nails dug deep into her palms.
Lucas watched the faint spark in her eyes fade away. It was replaced by a lifeless emptiness. Seeing it stirred a strange irritation in his chest. Suddenly, everything felt dull and uninteresting now.
He waved his hand and turned away. “If you don’t want to, forget it.”
Lucas clicked his tongue.
The whole thing felt lame now.
He lazily lifted his foot and started to leave. But after one step, someone grabbed the edge of his sleeve.
Jaylee held onto his cuff. Her fingers were cold and trembling.
“I–I’ll do it.”
Her voice was hoarse, filled with the desperation of someone with no other choice.
At Melrose Manor.
Noelle opened the flash drive. Inside were all the core files of Guzman Group. Every document was neatly organized. It was almost frightening how clear and complete everything was.
The financial reports were strong. The projects were stable. There were even detailed plans for the future.
Alina had arranged everything. Noelle didn’t need to manage anything. She could simply sit back and collect the profits.
It seemed like Alina had started preparing this a long time ago.
She had planned to hand the entire company to her.
Sebastian came out of the bathroom after his shower. When he saw Noelle sitting there quietly, he walked over and wrapped his arms around her. “What’s wrong?” he asked softly.
Noelle turned around and buried her face against his damp chest. “I’m in a bad mood,” she muttered.

It was clear she hadn’t eaten breakfast herself. A half–wrapped bagel stuck out of the side pocket of her canvas bag.
The little girl took the food and bit into it. “Mom, you cat too,” she said with a mouth full of food.
“I’m not hungry. You eat,” the mother said with a smile.
She gently wiped the corner of her daughter’s mouth. Her eyes were full of warmth.
Noelle didn’t realize when she had stopped walking. Something felt stuck in her throat.
She blinked and forced down the sudden sting in her eyes.
This kind of simple, ordinary moment… She had never had it.
When she was little, Willow always took Viola to preschool. Noelle would follow behind with her backpack. careful and quiet. Willow brought many snacks for Viola. But never for her.
The Guzman Residence was unusually quiet in the afternoon. Noelle didn’t alert anyone. She slipped inside like a shadow and walked straight to Mary’s bedroom door.
In the end, she had still come.
Just one look, then she would leave.
The door was slightly open. Mary’s voice came from inside. She tried to keep it low, but the anxiety and urgency in her tone were clear.
“Yes, it’s me! I don’t care what methods you use; you must find Viola! She’s just a young girl. She doesn’t have much money. Where could she possibly go? She must be in trouble! I’ll pay more! Whatever it costs! Use all your contacts to find her! You must bring her home safely. Do you hear me?!”
Noelle’s hand tightened around the doorknob. Her fingers turned pale.
The last trace of hesitation in her eyes and the tiny bit of hope she hadn’t even realized she still had shattered completely.
