Jasper stood to the side. He watched as Noelle focused only on Sebastian. Her eyes were full of concern for him. Jasper’s gaze slowly darkened.

His back hurt badly. When he had slipped earlier, sharp rocks had cut a long wound across his back. Blood had already soaked through his shirt.

Jasper, running behind her, saw it. His pupils shrank. Without even thinking, he lunged forward and shoved Noelle away with all his strength.

The snake struck. Its fangs sank deep into Jasper’s calf.

Jasper cried out and fell to the ground.
