“I’ll say it ten more times if I have to!”
Jaylee had finally snapped, all her pent–up hurt, jealousy, and resentment crashing out in one furious wave.

She’d spent days in misery, waiting for Lucas to come crawling back. But now, here he was, laughing and shopping with Noelle, a if Jaylee had never mattered at all.
She couldn’t stand it.
Her voice rang out, sharp and wild. “You two are flaunting your affair right in front of everyone! Buying clothes together like you‘: a couple! Do you think I’m stupid? Lucas, is this how you repay me? And you-”
She spun toward Noelle, eyes blazing. “Aren’t you married? You think being the great Ms. Guzman makes you special? Flirting wit your husband’s friend–don’t you have any shame?”
Her accusations echoed through the store, drawing a small crowd. People stopped to stare, whispering behind their hands.
Lucas‘ expression went dark, his features hard as stone. He didn’t bother with words. He simply pulled out his phone, dialed, and said, “Come here.”
A minute later, a cluster of men in black suits–mall security, led by their chief–pushed through the crowd.
“Hello, Mr. Lucas.” The chief gave a respectful bow.
Lucas jerked his chin at Jaylee. “This woman is causing a scene. Escort her out. Make sure she never comes back.”
“Yes, sir.” The guards didn’t hesitate. Two of them seized Jaylee by the arms.
“What are you doing? Let me go!” Jaylee thrashed and screamed. “Lucas! All this for her? You’ll regret this! I promise you, you’ll regret it!”
As they dragged her past Noelle, Jaylee suddenly stopped fighting.
She fixed Noelle with a look so venomous, it was almost physical.
“Noelle! You think you’ve won? You think you’re above me? You’re just lucky. You think you know pain? You’ve never suffered! One day, someone will step on you the way you stepped on me!”
Noelle met her gaze, calm and utterly unmoved, as though watching a tantrum from a child.
“Are you finished?” she asked quietly.
Jaylee was struck silent.
“Then take her out,” Noelle said, gesturing to the guards. “Don’t let her disturb anyone
else.”
Jaylee’s screams faded as they dragged her away, her voice echoing down the corridor until it was cut off by the elevator doors.
Lucas glanced at Noelle, his mouth twisting into a strained, tired smile. His voice came out rough “Let’s finish up. I’ll drive you home.”

Noelle didn’t move.
She called his name softly. “Lucas.”
He paused, turning back to her.
“Are you alright?” Noelle asked, her tone gentle.
Lucas looked surprised for a moment, then gave a real, if weary, smile. “Yeah, of course I’m fine. Just a crazy ex–she’s gone nc
Noelle could tell he didn’t want to talk about it, so she just nodded and fell into step beside him.
A few paces later, Lucas broke the silence.
His voice was thick, almost hoarse. “Noey, do you think I have terrible taste in people?”
She looked at him, waiting.
“The first time I saw Jaylee, she was on her knees cleaning vases,” Lucas said, staring blankly ahead. “She was dressed to get attention, but her back was straight as an arrow. She got slapped and didn’t shed a tear–just glared back, full of fire. I thought: was like you.”
Noelle said nothing, just listened.
“But in the end?” Lucas shook his head, a bitter smile on his lips. “She’s just like everyone else. Maybe worse. She really thought wouldn’t see through her.”
Noelle considered this before she answered. “It’s not your judgment, Lucas.”
He looked over, searching her face.
“You just want a family too much,” she said quietly. “When you see someone who seems close, you try to make it work, even if it’s not right.”
Lucas stopped in his tracks, her words sinking in.
After shopping, Lucas walked Noelle to her car before heading to his own.
He’d barely reached it when someone lunged from the shadows and grabbed his sleeve.
“Lucas!”
Jaylee’s face was ghostly pale, her eyes red and wild. She shook from head to toe. “How could you do this to me? How could you
–?”
Lucas stared down at her hand, his gaze as cold as the edge of a knife.
