The butler-” Duo was breathless, struggling for words. “He… he drove out to get groceries. As soon as the car left the estate, it… it xploded!”
Joelle sprang to her feet.
ebastian shot up beside her. “Where is he?!”
They took him to the hospital! The burns are awful!” Duo’s eyes were bloodshot. “The doctor said… he might not make it…”
le trailed off, but the meaning hung heavy in the air.
loelle was already running for the door.
/hen Noelle and Sebastian reached the hospital, chaos reigned in the corridor.
he emergency room door was closed tight, the red light above it burning like a warning flare.
urses darted in and out, faces grim.
Mr. Menzie! Ms. Kain!” A doctor in a white coat hurried over, his face a picture of panic and dread. “The patient is in critical ondition. Burns cover over 60% of his body, especially his arms… We’ve done everything we can, but…”
le didn’t finish. His expression and the silence that followed said enough.
ebastian’s fists clenched, knuckles,white.
Joelle didn’t pause. She headed straight for the emergency room.
Ms. Kain!” The doctor reached out, trying to stop her. “We’re still in the middle of surgery. You can’t”
Move.” Noelle’s voice was soft but absolute, freezing the doctor in place.
Recognition dawned in his eyes.
Voelle, the legendary guest of Franz. The one even Steve Mayer spoke of with awe.
He stepped aside, understanding there was no stopping her.
If he tried, someone would die.
“You… you mean…” The doctor’s voice trembled with hope.

Inside, beneath the harsh white light, the butler lay on the table.
Noelle stopped short.
The old man who’d always greeted her with a gentle smile was now burned nearly beyond recognition, clothes and flesh fused, the lines of his body lost to the injury.
His right hand was the worst.
The hand that had cooked for Sebastian for 20 years, served soup, pruned the garden–now a mangled wreck, blackened and curling, red tissue exposed beneath the char.
Noelle’s eyes burned with tears.
“Ms. Kain…” A doctor recognized her, voice uncertain and strained. “The injuries are too much. We’ve truly done everything…”
Noelle didn’t answer.
She stepped to the table and gently took the butler’s unburned left hand.
It was icy, almost lifeless.
She drew a long, steadying breath, forcing her emotions down. When she spoke again, her voice was calm and sure.
“I’ll take over.”
The other doctors and nurses exchanged uncertain glances.
The doctor who’d followed her in explained quickly, “This is Ms. Noelle Kain–the guest of Kingstowne Hospital’s director. Even Dr. Mayer respects her.”
That was enough. No one questioned her again.
Noelle was already in motion.
She assessed the damage, checked vitals, cleaned the wounds, stopped the bleeding.
Her movements were swift, precise, and confident.
Under her hands, even the most gruesome wounds seemed surmountable.
“lodine.”
A nurse passed it instantly.
“Gauze.
“Clamp.

They watched as this young woman carefully removed dead tissue, repaired nerve and blood vessel, fighting inch by inch to pull the butler back from the edge.
Time slipped by in tense silence.
Outside, Sebastian stood like a statue, unmoving.
He didn’t pace or speak. He just stared at the doors, every muscle rigid.
Lucas arrived at some point, quietly taking his place beside Sebastian. He didn’t say a word.
No one could say how long it was before the doors finally opened.
Noelle emerged.
Sweat streaked her brow, her face pale, but her eyes were steady and clear.
Her scrubs were streaked with blood and the sharp scent of disinfectant.
Sebastian moved to her at once, hands gripping her shoulders.
Noelle met his gaze and gave the faintest hint of a smile. “He’ll live.”
Sebastian’s shoulders sagged, relief breaking the tension in his frame.
“But…” Noelle’s voice softened, falling low. “His right hand is too badly burned. The nerves and muscles are destroyed. Even if he recovers, he may never use it again.”
