Chapter 71 Moment Of Truth
Chapter 71 Moment Of Truth
Noelle continued with her work, her hands steady and precise.
Half an hour later, she withdrew the equipment one by one.
In a gentle voice, she said, “You can open your eyes now. Take a look at yourself.”

Madeline slowly opened her eyes. She didn’t dare look at her own reflection right away. Instead, she glanced at Yvette first, only to see her sister crying as she handed over a mirror.
Madeline’s heart pounded. She took the mirror, closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to steady herself before finally daring to lift her gaze toward the glass.
When she saw her face, her breath caught.
Outside the room, Primo and Duo stood guard by the door.
Duo couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, do you think Mrs. Menzie can really cure that girl’s face?”
Primo raised a brow. “Are you questioning Mrs. Menzie’s skills?”
Duo chuckled. “I didn’t say that! Don’t put words in
my
mouth!”
“Relax. If she could save Mr. Menzie, a few skin lesions are nothing for her,” Primo said, a faint smile touching his usually stoic face as he watched Duo’s dramatic reaction.
Duo puffed out his chest. “Exactly! There’s nothing in this world that can stump Mrs. Menzie. A bit of skin infection? Easy.”
He made a quick grabbing motion, his proud expression finally cracking Primo’s cool composure, drawing out a subtle grin.
Duo then glanced downstairs. When he spotted Anthony stuffing himself with food and drink, disgust flashed in his eyes. “I’ve never seen anything so vile, eyeing his own niece’s inheritance and still having the nerve to come here freeloading!”
In the living room.
Anthony and Eliana were eating and drinking freely.
A full half hour had passed with no movement from upstairs. They exchanged a look, their expressions smug.
See?
They knew it wouldn’t work.
Noelle was so young, probably not even 20. What could she possibly know about medicine?
So much time had passed with no results–it had to be a failure.
Madeline was probably crying her eyes out in the room by now.

“Darling,” Eliana said sweetly, “we are their uncle and aunt, after all. Perhaps we should go up and check on them. Offer poor Madeline some comfort.”
Anthony nodded solemnly. “You’re right. Let’s go take a look.”
Their eyes gleamed with malicious anticipation as they strode upstairs, eager to enjoy the show.
As the couple reached the top, Primo and Duo frowned, about to stop them, when the door behind them opened.
Noelle stepped out first, followed by Yvette.
Yvette had been smiling, but when she saw her aunt and uncle, her expression instantly turned sorrowful.
The couple exchanged another glance.
Perfect!
That woman hadn’t succeeded after all.
Primo and Duo noticed Noelle looked weary and immediately handed her a bottle of water.
Good thing Mr. Menzie wasn’t around. If he were, he’d be heartbroken seeing her like this.
“Yvette,” Anthony said with false sympathy, “didn’t your uncle tell you? That girl looks like she’s barely 20. What could she possibly fix? Did she not only fail but make Madeline’s face even worse? Is it completely unsightly now?”
Eliana clicked her tongue. “Honestly, what were you thinking? Hurry up and bring Madeline out. Let us see how badly her face has
rotted.”
Both Anthony and Eliana wore looks of undisguised glee. “Madeline … forget it. Madeline, why don’t you come out and show them yourself.”
She stepped aside. Madeline slowly walked out of the room.
Both hands covered her face, hiding it from view.
She must be hiding it because it looks so awful now, Eliana thought, her smile widening.
“Oh, my dear Madeline, let me see! How is your face?”
She reached out to pull Madeline’s hands away. “Put your hands down and let me have a look…”
Madeline went along with her motion and lowered her hands.
Eliana looked eagerly at her face, ready for the horrific sight.
The angry, oozing sores on her face hadn’t vanished completely, but they had significantly improved. The swelling had gone down considerably, and the inflammation looked much less severe.
Paired with her delicate features and bright, sparkling eyes, she even looked… rather pretty.
Eliana’s eyes flew open. She pointed a trembling finger at Madeline, her voice a shrill screech. “You! Your face… It’s better?!”
Madeline’s eyes sparkled. Her whole demeanor radiated a vitality that was entirely absent before. She looked like a different

person.
“It’s not fully healed yet,” Madeline said with a smile. “Just a little better. I have Noelle to thank for treating me.”
She tilted her head innocently, her gaze lingering playfully on Eliana’s stiff, ugly expression. “Aunt Eliana, why do you look like that? Aren’t you happy my face is getting better?”
Eliana’s face was a mask of ugly shock. She never imagined that little wretch’s face could actually heal!
It wasn’t perfect yet, but in just half an hour, it had improved this much. Madeline’s complete recovery was now clearly within reach.
