Noelle didn’t bother explaining anything. Primo was naturally quiet, so Duo ended up doing all the talking. He rattled off the story quickly and dramatically, making it sound like Noelle had done something incredible.

“What?! Noelle, you really stuck a few needles in Ms. Madeline and cured her weird illness?” Lucas blurted out, stunned again by her medical skill.

Noelle just nodded. “Technically, it wasn’t a weird illness–it was poison. I used gold needles to drain the abscess and then gave her the right medicine. Her face healed on its own.

“I promised Yvette another needle therapy session tomorrow. After that, Madeline’s face will be completely fine.”

“Whoa, that’s amazing!” Lucas couldn’t help giving her a thumbs–up. “Honestly, you’re probably better than that Miracle Healer!”

As he spoke, Lucas suddenly thought about Sebastian’s legs, and his smile faded.

Noelle’s medical skills were incredible, yet even she couldn’t cure Sebastian’s legs. Did that mean he’d be stuck in a wheelchair

Sebastian, who had been staring quietly, suddenly asked in a cold tone, “Is your hand injured?”

‘Huh?”

Voelle instinctively looked at her hand. It was just a small scrape from the picture frame–barely even a wound.

‘No, it’s fine. This isn’t even worth calling an injury.”

Duo’s grin disappeared. He shrank back guiltily.

Sebastian had told them to make sure Noelle came back unhurt.

Was he going to get angry and exile them somewhere remote?

When Lucas heard that Noelle was hurt, a flash of hostility crossed his eyes. Then he leaned closer–just to see a little red scrape.

His mouth twitched. From Sebastian’s serious tone, he had expected something major.

‘It’s just a scrape. It doesn’t even hurt! I’ve had way worse injuries before!” Noelle said quickly. A scratch like that would heal soon anyway.

‘Give me your hand.”

Sebastian ignored her protests. He grabbed her wrist and placed her hand on his knee.

He disinfected it and carefully put on a pink–and–white Band–Aid.

It looked kind of cute, like one made for little girls.

“A doctor’s hands are precious. Take care of them. Don’t let even a small mark stay,” he said softly, his voice steady and gentle, like calm, flowing water. “Even small wounds hurt.”

Noelle’s eyes got a little watery.

She’d been hurt countless times before. A scrape like this was nothing.

But no one had ever treated her wounds like this before.

Serena and the others had lived in Kingstowne for years. As for the Kains? They wouldn’t treat her–they’d probably make it worse.

She remembered when she was ten. Viola had fallen on her own, and Jasper happened to walk by. Viola falsely accused Noelle of pushing her.

Jasper sided with Viola and shoved Noelle hard to the ground. Her hand hit a sharp rock, cutting her palm wide open. Blood gushed out.

She didn’t have any medicine. She hid in the storage room where she lived and used cloth strips to stop the bleeding. That was when Elmer walked in, holding a bottle. He said he’d help put some medicine on it.

But the bottle wasn’t medicine–it was full of glass shards and salt. He dumped it right onto her cut. The pain was excruciating, and Elmer just stood there, laughing maliciously.

Cleaning out the glass by herself had taken forever.

Now, someone else was actually treating her wound gently.

Noelle’s nose stung. She took a deep breath and forced the feeling back down.

Lucas watched nearby, his teeth aching from how sweet it looked. It was just putting on a band–aid, but somehow they made it feel intimate. Was that really necessary?
