Chapter 85 I Value Him
Unlike Lucas’s emotional outburst, Sebastian stayed calm and asked Noelle, “How sure are you?”
“About 50%,” Noelle answered honestly. She didn’t have strong confidence, but she still wanted to try.

If this didn’t work, then there was likely no cure left in the world. Someone as remarkable as Sebastian shouldn’t be trapped in a wheelchair forever.
“Only 50%?!”
Lucas’s expression darkened even more. “No way. Those odds are way too risky!”
“What if it doesn’t work?” Sebastian asked.
“It’s unpredictable,” Noelle said. “Detox can be dangerous. If something goes wrong, full–body paralysis could happen.”
That made Lucas explode. “Full–body paralysis?! Absolutely not! Sebastian, you’re not really trust her that much, are you?”
Sebastian stayed silent.
Time passed slowly. Just when Lucas thought he would turn it down, Sebastian finally spoke, his voice low but firm.
“I trust her.”
“Sebastian!” Lucas stared at him in disbelief. “Have you lost your mind?! This is serious!”
“I know,” Sebastian said. “But these are my legs. For the first time in years, someone told me there’s around 50% chance I could stand again. Even if it were 10%, I’d still try.”
He gave a small smile. “I don’t want to spend my whole life in a wheelchair. And besides-”
He paused and looked at Noelle, his tone softening. “She’s my wife. I should trust her.”
“Honey…”
Noelle’s heart shook hard, pain and warmth rushing up at the same time.
She hadn’t expected him to believe in her so completely without hesitation.
“There’s Miracle Healer. Her skills are much better than Noelle’s. We can wait for her. You-”
“Lucas, I know you care. But I’ve made my choice. I trust her.”
Seeing the determination in Sebastian’s eyes and the fearless resolve on Noelle’s face, Lucas’s chest heaved a few times. In the end, all his strength seemed to leave him, and he dropped back onto the couch.
He dragged a hand over his face and let out a long sigh. “…You’re crazy. All of you are crazy.”
Then he looked straight at Noelle, his gaze sharp and serious. “Noelle, if Sebastian suffers even the smallest accident because of you, I’ll be the first to hold you responsible!”
It sounded like a warning, but it was also permission.

Noelle met his eyes without backing down and nodded seriously. “Fine. If I fail, or if anything happens, I’ll accept whatever decision you make. I won’t argue.”
Lucas’s breathing grew heavy. His fists clenched tight. Suddenly, he stood up, ‘said nothing, and stormed out.
Noelle watched him leave.
“What do you need to get ready?”
Sebastian reached out and gently covered the back of her hand–the one holding the box. His warmth spread through her skin, quietly supporting her.
Noelle looked at him and slowly smiled. “Honey, you don’t need to do anything. Just wait patiently for me to treat you. I promise I won’t let you down!”
Inside the room, Noelle was writing the prescription for the medicated bath.
With Wanderroot–the hardest ingredient to get–already in hand, the rest were simple. Alliance 749 had all of them. She could pick them up tonight.
They had stayed in Kingstowne long enough. Noelle planned to start the treatment after returning to Riverdale, and Sebastian agreed.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
Noelle set down her pen, stood up, walked over, and opened it.
Lucas was standing outside.
He looked rough. His eyes were red and bloodshot.
“I was too harsh earlier,” he said hoarsely, sounding tired. “I wasn’t aiming that at you. Don’t take it personally.”
“I know,” Noelle said with a gentle smile, stepping aside to let him in. “You’re worried about my husband. You’re scared something might happen to him.”
Lucas walked in but didn’t sit. With his back to her, he stared out the window for a long time before saying softly, “Sebastian is my closest friend. I value him more than my own life.
“I’ve known him since we were kids. I watched him fall from the top, get stuck in Riverdale, and suffer all these years. More than anyone else, I want him to stand again.”
He turned to look at Noelle, his expression complicated. “And that’s why I’m scared of false hope. I’m terrified of him getting hurt again. Do you understand?”
“I do,” Noelle replied. Her smile faded, replaced by seriousness and resolve. “I understand all your worries. He matters to me just as much. He’s someone I’d protect with my life.
“I may not have 100% certainty, but I can promise you, I’ll use everything I know and everything I have to keep him safe. I’ll review every step again and again, and I’ll be ready for anything.”
