Fake Heiress True Luna (Irina) novel Chapter 94

Chapter 17: Ominous Feeling

Irina’s POV

Debbie and I walked toward the long wooden benches at the training grounds. I already told Aiden to be careful and to please make sure Ethan can walk tomorrow,

He is still our Beta, and we have three more days of challenges, events, and guests. He can’t

be out of service for long.

Not until he finds his mate and the Beta female helps him with his duties. With Debbie gone, there is too much work to do around the pack, and poor Ethan has had to pull more weight

than any of us.

“We should tell him to go around the packs, perhaps his mate is somewhere else,” Theia suggested.

“I think his mate is a rogue,” I replied because considering how many gatherings we have had, there is no way he wouldn’t have find his mate by now.

The only plausible explanation was that his mate was a rogue. I’m not worried though, the Goddess always finds a way to pair lovers up.

Debbie plopped down beside me, still flushed from the run, curls sticking to her forehead. I

sat next to her, pulling Aiden’s coat tighter around myself.

I decided to keep it, even if I wasn’t cold. I loved how I could smell his scent around me. I felt

as if he were here, hugging me with those strong arms…

“Girl, you ran incredibly fast! I rested for half an hour and still feel tired!”

I chuckled. “You need to train some more,” I teased.

Debbie glared at me. “I may be one of the few Beta females who could knock an Alpha out, but you are on a different level.”

I shook my head while snickering. “Thanks for the compliment.”

“Shall we tell her we didn’t use all our speed?” Theia teased.

“Nah, let her keep her pride,” I replied.

I lifted my head to look around. “Where is your mate?” I asked. “I saw him during the run, but he left you alone?”

“No,” Debbie replied. “He had to look for Derek; he wasn’t in the run.”

I blinked, scanning the crowd. “You’re right. Where did he go?”

Debbie sighed, brushing her hair back. “I’m not sure. Derek has gone AWOL, and Kael got

worried.”

Theia lifted her head inside me. “Ya thinking what I’m thinking?”

I nodded as I kept staring behind the trees. “Cindy wasn’t here either.”

Debbie noticed my expression. “You think something happened?”

“I don’t know,” I murmured. “But after Ethan’s fight with Aiden… I think I might need to check

on someone.”

Debbie hasn’t told me Derek is mated to Cindy, so I will wait until she does. In the meantime I’m going to follow my hunch.

“You’re scaring me,” Debbie teased. “It feels like you are planning to take down an entire

army.”

I huffed a small laugh. “Not tonight.”

Debbie snorted. “You sure? Because with the way Karen ran away earlier, I thought you might.

I shrugged, eyes following Aiden as he spoke to a group of warriors.

Debbie leaned closer and whispered dramatically, “So… are you nervous?”

I blinked. “About what?”

“The fight,” she said. “Your Alpha. My cousin. The battle of stubborn idiots.”

I chuckled. “No. Not even a little.”

Debbie raised an eyebrow. “Really?”

“Really,” I replied confidently. “Ethan is strong. Fast. Annoying. And definitely going to give everything he has to get under Aiden’s skin. That’s why he is the Beta, because he might be the only one in the pack who can fight Aiden.”

“Well, they’ve been friends since they were kids. Everyone knew Ethan would become Beta.”

I nodded. “But Aiden will win,” I continued, my voice calm and certain. “Even if Ethan fights

like his life depends on it.”

Debbie crossed her arms and pouted. “I have to agree with you on this one. Even if he is my

cousin and I love him, he has never defeated Aiden. Not even when they were kids.”

I smiled softly. “Aiden won’t humiliate him. I’m sure he just wants to show how strong he is, so the other warriors retreat from their challenges. Alphas won’t because of their pride, but with this strategy, he can save a day.”

Debbie snorted. “I can’t believe your mate actually used his brain for once. It is a solid plan if you think about it.”

I nodded. “Just like my plan with Karen. After I wipe the floor with her, I’m sure nobody will dare to claim I’m not strong enough for Aiden.”

I laughed under my breath, but Theia hummed uneasily, her nose up.

“Irina… the forest is restless. Something is off.”

I glanced again at the tree line. “Rogues?” I questioned, but she shook her head.

“That time they came in because someone helped them from the inside, that won’t happen again.”

“Then what is it?” I asked, but Theia shook her head.

She knew something was wrong, but she didn’t know what. That means I need to keep my eyes open in case there is an attack.

Perhaps one of the Alphas will play dirty…

Either way, if the danger were imminent, Theia would have told me. It was an ominous feeling, but that means we still have some time.

“Hey,” I nudged Debbie, who now looked tense. “Your cousin is about to get his ass handed to him. Pay attention. It might be funny.”

Debbie barked a laugh exactly as Ethan strutted into the center of the arena, shirtless, bouncing on his heels like he wasn’t about to fight his own Alpha, a man a few inches taller than him and with more muscle than he could ever build even if he trained all day long.

He cracked his neck, winked at the crowd, then winked at me.

Debbie facepalmed. “Oh Goddess. He’s already showing off.”

“Well,” I said, suppressing a grin, “at least he looks confident.”

“He always looks confident,” Debbie muttered. “Confidence is his second skin. The first is stupidity.”

I snorted again, but my eyes soon drifted to Aiden.

My mate walked toward Ethan with a slow, controlled pace, muscles rolling beneath his skin, jaw sharp, eyes burning with a mixture of annoyance and amusement.

Someone near us whispered, “The Alpha looks like he’s about to kill someone.”

Debbie grinned wickedly. “That’s just his face.”

Aiden glanced in our direction and caught me staring. For a moment, everything stilled around us.

I felt his emotion through the bond. I loved that about the connection we shared.

I knew what went through his mind with just a glance, and he could do the same with me.

He was mine, and I was his.
