Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 112

It was the first time in a long while that Sebastian had seriously considered Lillian's financial situation.

Even when Lillian had returned her shares in the Blake Group and given back his credit cards, he hadn't given it this much thought.

After returning home that evening, he had his people investigate the car Lillian was driving.

Everything Bella hadn't told him, he now knew.

But that raised another question: he still didn't know where Lillian's money had come from.

Deep in thought, the door to his room creaked open. Noah walked in, rubbing his eyes, and mumbled, “Daddy.”

Sebastian snapped out of his reverie and beckoned his son over.

Noah padded over to his side. “Daddy, why aren't you sleeping yet?”

With a rare display of patience, Sebastian asked, “Why is Noah still awake?”

“I can't sleep without Auntie Bella reading me a story,” Noah said. “Daddy, when are we moving back? When we live with Grandma and Grandpa, Auntie Bella doesn't come to read bedtime stories anymore. Daddy, I miss Auntie Bella.”

Before, when the Blake elders were abroad, Sebastian lived in a separate villa.

On nights when Bella didn't have to work late, she would often go back with Sebastian, play with Noah, have dinner, and then tuck him into bed before having the driver take her home.

Or, if the weather was bad, she would stay the night in a guest room at Sebastian's villa and they would take Noah to preschool together the next morning.

Their life together had felt just like a family of three.

Noah had grown accustomed to his bedtime routine of Bella reading him stories.

Sebastian suddenly asked, “Do you miss Mommy, Noah?”

The word “Mommy” felt almost foreign to Noah now.

The last time he’d seen his mother, she had utterly humiliated him in front of his classmates. Now, he didn't want to see her at all.

But he didn't dare say that directly. Studying his father's expression, it seemed like Daddy was thinking about Mommy.

“If Daddy misses Mommy, you can go to Grandpa's house to see her,” Noah suggested.

He had always assumed his mother lived with the Mercer family.

“Mommy isn't living at Grandpa's house,” Sebastian corrected him. “She has nowhere else to go, so she might be staying in a hotel. If Noah wants to see Mommy, how about we go pick her up and bring her home tomorrow?”

At the thought of bringing his mother back, Noah felt a flicker of resistance.

He was still just a child, and it was hard for him to hide his true feelings.

Sebastian saw it written all over his face.

Perhaps he was pushing his son too hard.

“Daddy, does Mommy not like Auntie Bella?” Noah asked. “If Mommy comes back to live with us, does that mean I won't get to see Auntie Bella anymore?”

Sebastian smiled, realizing that was the source of his son’s concern.

“Of course not. Auntie Bella still works at the company. Noah can see her whenever you want.”

Noah looked down, frowning in thought before finally answering, “Okay, then.” He would go get his mother.

Otherwise, Lillian would never agree to come back.

With Noah there, she would have to consider her son, no matter what.

Lillian had always poured her heart and soul into Noah. After he was born, she had insisted on taking care of him herself, reluctant to let anyone else help.

She surely couldn't bear to be apart from him now.

The best way to get her to come home was to bring Noah along.

Though he sensed his son's reluctance, he didn't pay it much mind.

All Noah had to do was come with him.

The Blake elders exchanged a glance. Only after watching the father and son leave did they speak.

“Howard, do you think Sebastian can really bring Lillian back? I don't know, this family feels more distant than strangers.”

Old Mr. Blake sighed. “This son of mine... he’s still not sharp enough. Without Lillian, I’m afraid the Blake family won’t last long.”

With that, the old man shook his head and walked back into the room.

What a pity that he was only seeing this now.

He was too old, and no longer had the energy to groom a new successor.

If his predictions about Sebastian were true, how would the Blake Group, the culmination of generations of hard work, be protected in the future?
