"We could, at the right time," Lillian mused. "For instance, right when their big project is about to launch. It could be useful for delaying their progress."
Leonard blinked.
Well now, she was learning to be ruthless.
When did she learn to use her own situation to suppress her rivals?
His worried expression vanished, replaced by a grin.
"We can definitely send him a smokescreen," he said, quickly looking down at his food to hide his smile.
Having found nothing, Sebastian didn't work late that night. As his mind idled, it became consumed with one thought: figuring out what was wrong with Lillian.
What kind of situation required an ambulance?
And how was it that even he couldn't find a trace of her medical records?
After turning it over and over in his mind, Sebastian decided to stop thinking and just act. He got a new burner phone and called Lillian directly.
By now, Lillian knew that any call from an unknown number was likely from either the Mercers or Sebastian.
She simply didn't answer.
If Sebastian was investigating, it meant Brandon had told him. She didn't have to guess to know their concern wasn't for her well-being, but for whether her health would affect her ability to have a second child.
That was probably the only aspect of her health that mattered to them.
Lillian had no need for that kind of concern.
Her body was no longer suitable for pregnancy, so she couldn't give them the answer they were looking for anyway.
Things were best left as they were.
Sebastian tried several different burner phones, and Lillian blocked every single one.
The next morning, Sebastian's car was parked in front of Lillian's company, blocking her in.
With a sigh of resignation, Lillian asked Emma to park her car for her and got into the back of Sebastian's Rolls-Royce.
"You have five minutes. Say what you need to say, quickly. I don't have time for this."
She immediately pulled out her phone and started a timer.
Sebastian could never quite understand why Lillian's attitude towards him had changed so drastically after prison.
Before, she had done everything she could to be near him, constantly clinging to him.
She had always had endless things to say. But now, the way she stared at her phone, counting down every second she had to give him, made her seem like a complete stranger.
