After all, Noah had been designated as Old Mr. Blake's successor from the moment he was born. As Noah's maternal family, the Mercers couldn't be allowed to fall.
Sebastian didn't say much more, and after a few more words, Brandon left.
The moment Brandon was out of the car, Sebastian made a call to have Lillian's medical records pulled.
Hearing Brandon's story about her illness, a knot of unease tightened in his chest. He needed to know what was going on.
However, the result was unexpected.
Not only could they not find any of Lillian's medical records, but there was also no record of an ambulance being dispatched for her or any hospital admission.
Leonard, in the middle of his meal, suddenly let out a small laugh.
Lillian looked up at him. "What is it?"
"Your ex-hubby is investigating you," Leonard said.
Lillian paused, confused. "Ex-hubby?"
Leonard cleared his throat to cover his slip. "Well, you're getting a divorce, right? Your soon-to-be-ex."
Lillian realized he was talking about Sebastian.
"What's he investigating?"
"When you got sick two days ago, I didn't want to waste any time, so I had a hospital ambulance bring you home. You mentioned your brother saw it, right? Well, Sebastian is trying to find your medical records, ambulance dispatch logs, everything. And of course, he's found nothing."
Lillian had to smile. Of course Sebastian wouldn't find anything.
The ambulance Leonard had called wasn't from a 911 dispatch; it was one he had summoned privately. How could there be a record?
