Lillian received the invitation for Martin and Sabrina's wedding that afternoon, just as she was leaving work.
Brandon had delivered it.
He had tried to approach Lillian several times before but never found an opportunity.
Today, using the invitation as an excuse, he cornered her at the entrance of her company building.
Lillian felt like it was a particularly unlucky day. Blocked by Sebastian in the morning, and now by Brandon in the afternoon.
"An invitation?"
Lillian didn't even reach out to take the card Brandon held out.
She laughed mockingly. "Are you sure they want me at their wedding? They've waited half a lifetime for this day. Wouldn't my presence ruin the atmosphere?"
"Lillian, you're Dad's daughter too. It's only right that you're invited to his wedding. Why not take this opportunity for the family to reconcile?
Dad would surely be happy at the wedding, and if you could offer a few words of blessing, we could consider all that past unpleasantness over and done with.
We're a family. We should be loving and supportive of each other."
Lillian truly couldn't comprehend how Brandon's mind worked.
Loving and supportive?
What a joke.
She stared at Brandon, her gaze so intense that the expression on his face grew uneasy, before she finally looked away.
"Brandon, you go ahead and be loving and supportive with them. There's really no need to drag me into it."
"Lillian, we're a family. Ms. Ward wrote this invitation for you with her own hands. She hopes you can come home."
Sabrina really was a master of manipulation. Even after everything, she still wanted her to attend the wedding?
As for this business of 'saving face,' that's a tricky line to walk, so I'll just pretend you never said it.
By the way, don't you find the wedding date interesting?"
Lillian had already seen the date on the invitation. She wondered if Sabrina had chosen it intentionally.
"What's wrong with the date? It's a good day."
"Is it a good day? More than a decade ago, on this very day, Dad smashed a vase over Mom's head, causing her to have a mental breakdown. Hah, but why am I telling you this? You wouldn't remember any of it."
With that, Lillian walked away.
Brandon stood rooted to the spot. Regarding the date, he racked his brain but couldn't recall a specific day from over ten years ago.
Did Lillian remember all of it?
How could she remember everything, and so clearly at that?
