Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1620

The grueling, extended treatment cycle felt like absolute torture for Lillian.

Her own physical agony wasn't even the worst part. What truly broke her was enduring her own pain while helplessly watching Leonard suffer.

Dr. Smith adjusted a monitor. "Well? Are you still happy with my arrangement?"

Lillian shook her head, tears blurring her vision. "Seeing it with my own eyes... I finally understand exactly how much he sacrificed for me."

After every massive blood extraction—a process akin to completely replacing his blood volume—Leonard would fall into a deep, unshakeable coma.

Comparatively, Lillian's physical condition was much more stable.

Since the couple entered the lab, they had zero time or energy to manage affairs back home.

Everything was completely handed over to Ethan.

Fortunately, Ethan was fiercely dedicated to his duties.

Days passed without Eleanor getting to see Lillian. Instead, Ethan kept her company every morning over breakfast.

To his relief, Eleanor was well-behaved. She didn't throw tantrums or act out.

While she clearly preferred seeing Lillian, she was fond enough of Ethan to stay in relatively high spirits.

"Madame Rose hasn't had much of an appetite lately," Ethan noted, glancing at her untouched plate. "Is the kitchen staff cooking differently than they did back home?"

The villa's kitchen had been completely overhauled. The ingredients, the culinary team, and even the spices had been flown in directly from the Halfridge Villas. There was no logical reason for the food to taste different.

Martha sighed while wiping the counter. "It's probably just the change of scenery. She's not used to it yet.

We did our best to remodel this place to look exactly like the Halfridge property, but at the end of the day, it just doesn't have that feeling of home."

Ethan nodded thoughtfully. "If I had known, I would have just ordered them to tear the whole place down and rebuild it from scratch."

Martha waved her hands in panic. "Oh, Mr. Hayes, I didn't mean it like that! I need to go check on the Madam. Excuse me!"

A feeling of home?

Ethan stared at the elegant architecture. Whatever. He would just have to figure out a way to make it cozier.

Tearing it down and starting over wasn't exactly an option now.

Meanwhile, Lillian's treatment was progressing smoothly. Having been through the protocol once, she knew what to expect.
