The shares now under Sabrina’s name would never be returned to him or his brother. They would be passed on to an outsider.
Brandon shot to his feet. “Lillian, can we talk about our thing later? I have to go back and get this sorted out with Dad. Those shares cannot go to an outsider.”
Lillian let out a cold laugh. “The transfer is already complete. Isn’t it a little late to be saying that now?
Brandon, shouldn’t you have seen this coming?
You see how much Dad dotes on that woman every day at home. They’re married now.
A lot of the family assets are now their joint property.
Maybe they’ll get a sudden urge to have another child, and then you’ll have one more person to split the shares with.
Just think of these shares as an advance for your new little brother or sister. Yes, a new little brother or sister.”
At her words, Brandon’s mind flashed back to Martin talking about wanting a late-in-life child. He hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but now, as he connected the dots, the problem became glaringly obvious. This was a huge mess.
He was about to lose a significant portion of the company’s shares. In the future, Martin would likely give the majority of his own shares to this new child as well. It’s not unheard of in families like theirs; as people get older, they tend to dote on their youngest, compensating for a perceived lack of affection with money.
Brandon grew even more agitated. He had been working tirelessly to maintain the company for years.
Now, his father was lost in a haze of romance, leaving the entire burden on his shoulders.
His younger brother, Colin, had always supported him without ever overstepping, content to be his second-in-command. Their relationship was solid. But a new, much younger sibling would change everything.
The age gap would be too wide to form any real brotherly bond.
For years, they had played the part of a happy, loving family, while she was treated like an outsider. But things were different now. That facade of familial love was about to crumble from within.
Sabrina didn't want to see her happy, and frankly, the feeling was mutual. Her disgust for Sabrina had taken root the day her mother caught them cheating. Her father had smashed a vase over her mother's head, spilling so much blood.
The physical stains had been cleaned up long ago, but the memory of that blood was seared into her mind, an indelible scar she would carry for life.
She hated Sabrina for knowingly becoming a mistress and destroying their family. She also despised her own father, who, despite having a beautiful wife, still chose to cheat.
He knew Sabrina had abandoned him when she thought he was just some poor guy, yet he still crawled back to her. His poor judgment had ruined her mother’s life.
How could she stand by and watch them live happily ever after while her own mother was forced to live like a madwoman, stripped of her dignity?
Lillian would never forgive them. She was no saint; forgiveness was a job for saints. And when it came to Sabrina, she had zero tolerance.
