Lillian could find out about all of Bella's movements if she wanted to. But sometimes, even when she didn't want to know, the information would still be sent to her phone. Sometimes it was from Marcus, and other times it was from one of his men who had tailed Bella and would send a report complete with photos and descriptions.
The most critical information would be highlighted at the top of the message. Lillian only read the highlights. If there was a significant development, she would read the full report; otherwise, she wouldn't bother. She simply wasn't that interested.
Bella had no idea that Lillian was already aware of all her actions.
The next morning, before heading to the office at ten, Lillian did her exercises with Mr. Peregrine. Afterward, they discussed his specific diagnosis for her mother and grandmother from the previous day.
Lillian learned that her grandmother had a high chance of waking up. Although it would take some time, at least she would regain consciousness. Her mother, however, was a different story. A full recovery was a long shot.
Years ago, she had suffered a head injury. The delicate pathways of the brain were far too complex, and the only option would be another craniotomy. The surgery would have to be performed by one of the world's top neurosurgeons, and even then, there was no guarantee of a full recovery. It was also possible that it could cause even more severe nerve damage, leaving her in a worse state than she was now.
The decision rested with the family.
Lillian was conflicted, unsure of what to choose. Although her mother's mental state was unchanged, she seemed to be enjoying her current life. If her condition worsened, it would be a huge problem—something Lillian absolutely did not want to see.
"Ms. Mercer, my personal recommendation is to stick with conservative treatment. A craniotomy carries too high a risk for too little potential reward. Perhaps in a few years, when the technology has advanced, you can reconsider this option."
During her lunch break that day, Lillian called Stephen over. She showed him the photos of the antique jewelry, which left him stunned.
"My God, isn't this piece supposed to be on display at Midvale's largest jewelry store? How did it end up at an auction? Is it a fake? Or a new archeological find?"
Lillian shook her head. "Neither. It's the real thing. It appeared at the Northwyn auction last night. Leonard and I happened to be there, so we bought it. The chip on the corner from when I dropped it as a child is still there. This is the exact piece from the Midvale jewelry store."
Upon hearing this, Stephen went pale, the blood leaching from his features as the implications set in.
