Martin replied, "She did open a studio, but what was it for exactly? Gaming? This kind of stuff?"
Brandon scoffed. "Of course. She loved playing games since she was a kid and refused to study. It's perfectly normal for her.
Mom and Grandma always spoiled her. Opening a studio for her was just a way to give her a legitimate excuse to skip school and play games. What's the big deal?"
Martin's face darkened. "If she's so good at games, why didn't she say so earlier? Why embarrass Bella on stage like that?
Couldn't she see that Bella thought she didn't know how to play and was going easy on her at the start?
Bella was giving her a way out, trying to save her face, and look at her! What kind of person does something like that?"
Brandon added, "Bella must be really upset right now. She couldn't even keep her composure at the end."
After a moment's thought, Martin said, "Later, go to your mother's safe and pick out two valuable pieces of jewelry. Give one to Bella as an apology. Give the other to Sabrina. We can't let this incident drive a wedge between them."
Brandon nodded. "Don't worry, Dad, I'll take care of it."
Whenever Bella was the least bit unhappy, Martin and Brandon would immediately think of ways to appease her.
Over the past two years, they had given Bella quite a lot of jewelry.
Neither man knew much about gems or jewelry, but they had a ready supply at home.
Eleanor's safe held a vast collection of jewelry she had acquired in her youth.
The Lancaster family had been prominent jewelers in Midvale, so Eleanor had never lacked for such things.
Her eye for jewelry was at an expert level, and her collection consisted of only the finest pieces.
