Lillian remarked, "Sebastian mentioned his father was here, but I haven't seen him at all. So, he's not even dining in the main hall."
Nathan explained, "Of course not. When people of their stature attend these conferences, their main purpose is to check on their industries.
But if they actually appeared in the main venue, countless people would flock to them to curry favor.
For one, they're older and don't have the energy to deal with the younger generation.
For another, at their age, they prefer peace and quiet. Sticking to their own exclusive circle is the best way to get it, isn't it?"
Lillian nodded. "Then how did I end up at this main table?"
She hadn't revealed her identity as Li, and right now, she was just a newcomer in the startup scene.
She hardly had the qualifications to sit here.
Nathan lowered his voice. "It's obvious, isn't it? It has to be Sebastian's doing. You're still technically married, or at least, Old Mr. Blake still recognizes the relationship.
Since he's at the main table, how could he leave you out? It would make his father look bad."
"That makes sense."
Just as she finished speaking, a hostess approached their table.
She stopped beside Lillian, smoothed her skirt, and knelt gracefully.
Looking up at Lillian, she smiled and asked, "Ms. Mercer, the esteemed guests at the private room inside would be honored if you would join them for dinner."
Lillian pointed at herself. "Me?"
She, an industry newcomer, was qualified to dine at the *real* main table in the private room?
Was it Professor Avery?
It shouldn't be. The old man wasn't that thoughtless.
