Emilia thought about it for a moment, then replied, "I'm not sure. Tyler handled that matter privately; it's a top-tier classified issue within The Erickson Group."
After a brief pause, she added, "Israel Jensen probably knows."
Tyler entrusted many of his tasks to Israel.
However, Emilia couldn't be certain if Israel would disclose anything without Tyler's explicit permission.
"Got it," Cynthia said before ending the call.
Emilia stared at her phone, then looked up at the sky outside her window.
The police asking about Eugene... Did that mean Vivienne's situation was connected to him?
A gentle breeze brushed past, and Emilia tightened her grip on her phone.
...
Elsewhere, at a certain secluded mansion.
Israel received Cynthia's call.
He glanced at the basement door below, walked upstairs, and answered.
"Detective Cynthia?" Israel greeted. "What can I do for you?"
"Hello, Mr. Jensen. I'd like to ask about the reasons behind the resignation of your company's former Purchasing Manager, Eugene," Cynthia's voice came through the line. "I just tried calling your boss, but couldn't get through, so I'm reaching out to you."
The second basement level had been specially modified, resulting in poor cellular reception.
Hearing Cynthia ask about Eugene, Israel's heart skipped a beat. He instinctively glanced back toward the second-level basement.
"Detective, this matter involves company secrets. I'll need to consult Mr. Erickson first," Israel said carefully. "May I ask why you're inquiring about Eugene's resignation?"
Whatever Cynthia said next left Israel's jaw practically on the floor.
