On his phone lay the last message Emilia had sent him.
Distant and polite—[Thank you.]
Tyler clenched his fists.
He glanced at Israel sitting beside him.
"What's the situation with Eugene?" he asked.
Israel had been carefully observing Tyler's expression. Now, he quickly replied, "We've heard reports of a few individuals resembling him roaming the area recently, but we can't confirm anything."
"It might be a test," Israel continued. "Eugene is incredibly cautious. He might have hired people to test the waters repeatedly. If we move in to make an arrest now, it could backfire."
Tyler nodded.
Patience was key.
If they alerted the snake in the grass, catching Eugene later would be nearly impossible.
From the front seat, Israel checked Tyler through the rearview mirror.
Choosing his words carefully, he asked, "Mr. Erickson, should we head over to Miss Dennis's company and take a look?"
He had heard the gossip from the crowd just now. If Tyler showed up, it would crush some of the nasty rumors.
But Tyler slightly lowered his gaze.
"No," he said.
Since she hadn't accepted his opening gifts, it meant she didn't welcome him.
"Then what about those people..." Israel asked anxiously.
Tyler looked up, his gaze locking onto the gossiping crowd, and let out a cold laugh.
"Find out which families they belong to." Tyler shifted his gaze back to Israel. "Send them a warning."
"Understood!" Israel replied.
"And one more thing," Tyler said, looking down at his phone. "Tell Chloe to come see me."
Israel immediately got to work.
While Ella was enjoying the treat, George handed their gifts to a nearby staff member to put away.
"Emilia, some people at the entrance need their mouths washed out with soap," George said, glancing at his brother. "I'm going to take some guys and teach them a lesson."
Emilia smiled. She exchanged a glance with Theodore. She already knew about the gossip.
She had known even before these three arrived.
"Ignore them," Emilia said, handing another dessert to George.
"But..."
"Let me handle it myself," Emilia told him. "The only thing that will truly shut them up is the concrete results of my projects."
She spoke calmly. "Protection from others is only temporary. True power comes from within. That's how you silence rumors."
Theodore smiled warmly and added, "George, trust Emily."
He had always known her style of doing things, and he knew she was more than capable of handling it.
